Stay away.
Unfortunately this is a terrible planer. It does very well at first, but the reliability declines quickly. This is my second one to own in less than a year and both times the head has snapped without warning. It's too bad because I really do like Craftsman products.

No thickness lock
The thickness raises as your board goes through being there is no lock to hold the height. A 4 foot board will have a 1/16” thickness difference from start to finish unless you physically hold the adjustment handle.

Poor Quality - Broke before project is finished.
Tried to turn the elevating handle and the head assembly cover snapped on one side where it connects to the roller. I am no she-hulk, I barely turned it and heard a pop/crack sound and it was busted. Have not owned this more than 4 months and now it needs to be replaced.

Works Great, watch for kickback
Works great on longer lumber (36" and up). Not so good if your lumber is less than this. Broken thumb is testimony to the power of the kickback. Do not stand in front of the infeed, and if possible don't hold onto the end of the board as you feed it. Gloves, and hold it from the side in case it shoots out at you. Other than that, two tables three cutting boards and it is still going strong. Broke the dust collector, but that's a small thing.
