Description
The DirectDrive® garage door opener is the quietest on the market. Unlike conventional garage door openers that use a noisy chain, belts or screws, DirectDrive® has only one moving part with no moving chain or belt. The motor glides silently along the stationary chain that is embedded in an indestructible steel rail, creating the quietest garage door opener available. Comes with rolling code for extra safety measure.
- Strong and durable like a chain drive and quieter than a belt drive
- Direct Drive - only 1 moving part
- Side or vertical mount options when space is at a premium

Will this opener work with a rear mounted torsion spring
Based on my installation, I don’t think it will

Is it smart phone/WiFi compatible? Does the beam beep if broken(very annoying if yes) Is light timer adjustable to extend longer. Can it be forced on
this model is not smart phone or WIFI compatible on its own. The company (Sommer) does sell a third-party kit for smart phone/WIFI compatibility. The beam does not beep if broken. The light timer is not adjustable to extender longer. IT can be forced on by pressing the light button on the wall switch.

will this work for an 8' width by 9' tall door?
you would need the 3' extension to lift the 9' tall door. The standard system comes with a rail that works for 7' to 8' doors.

How easy is it to set up the "Homelink" program in the car? Or is it available?
I have two Sommer openers and two vehicles each with homelink. It is very easy to set up. Just follow the supplied instructions from the garage opener manufacturer and your vehicle manual (if necessary)

What is the minimum space required under the ceiling, measured from the wall to the end of motor,is 9' feet space enough for 7' door?
No, 9 feet is not enough space. The opener requires a minimum of 137.5” (11’ 5 1/2”) of space.
There is no chain, belt or screw drive garage door opener available that will work in 9’ of space.
The only opener that will work for you is the LiftMaster 8500. That opener will mount directly on the 1” shaft of a torsion spring assembly. If you have a door that has 2 extension springs, the 8500 won’t work for you either......unless you convert to a torsion spring assembly. If you have a 1-piece “swing up” door the 8500 will not work at all.

How to order replacement parts - what selection do you have?
Google the brand, two places will come up, one in Ontario and the other in BC. Call whichever is closer to you. Or if one doesn't have your part, call the other one.

Is this motor strong enough to open a 16 feet by 8 feet door?
The key to a long life for a garage door opener is: your garage door needs to be properly balanced and run smoothly. The modern garage door openers have electronic force settings to protect the motors from working too hard.
This opener will definitely lift the 16x8 door if it runs smoothly on its own.

Excellent garage door opener
This is an amazing door opener. It is simple to install, and well designed to reduce the number of moving parts. It is absolutely silent, smooth and effective. By far the best garage door opener I have ever owned.

No Warranty!
The so called Lifetime Warranty is a lie as there is no contact infomation of this munufacture.Even customer service can not find it. My opener is not working properly after 2 years. I have to buy a new one.

Sample and Quiet Garage Opener
The design is simple and powerful. It is the quietest garage opener when I replaced my Sears (Mastercraft) Chain Garage Door Open.

Doesn't close reliably
We bought this opener and had it installed in our new house and it has been nothing but a nightmare. Yes...it is insanely quiet and the direct drive system is fantastic. But that is where the redeeming qualities stop. The door will close, touch the ground and open up again. Sometimes closing it again will be ok, sometimes you have to go through 12 or more open/close cycles to get it to close. You can run through the learning cycle to set the ground pressure and then it will be OK for...an undermined amount of time. Sometimes weeks, sometimes hours before the problem is back. We had to order a second U or C bracket direct from the manufacturer to correct an issue with the rail flexing too much at the end closest to the garage door, which we thought was causing the problems with the door not closing. We spent a few weeks troubleshooting with Sommer and they ended up sending us a new controller board for the garage door opener. Installed it, and the problem was still there. Had the garage door, rollers, track and spring all serviced, even though everything is new, and all those components are square, free of any resistance and the load on the spring is good. Door still lowers, touches the ground and then raises back up. We ran into issues with range on the remotes...which used to open the garage door from the street, now we have to be almost against the door to open it. They suggested using non LED lights in the unit (which we switched...no change) and removing all the LED lights from the garage and across the front of our house. Nearly impossible to do in a brand new home. Remote range wasn't an issue to begin with, it only appeared over time. Put new batteries in the remotes and Sommer sent us an external antenna to install. Problem not resolved here either.
We have re-set the system countless times, lubed all the components of the door, tested all the electrical, tested the emergency eye sensors, had the entire door and rails and spring serviced and verified they are 100% functional, replaced the lights, battery remotes, added an external antenna, installed a second brace, re-setup all the stop points, and ensured they aren't interfering, ensured there are no obstructions on the ground and replaced the main controller board. None of this has managed to fix the issue with this unit. STILL working with Sommer (going on 7 months) to resolve the issue.

Very quiet
So far it's working well . Very quiet . Easy install . It's a little slow but can live with that. The only thing I had to adjust was one DIP switch to keep the door down because the door backs off a little when closed to release pressure but this was leaving my heat out .
