Can this be used to cut into cubes for crafting?

Yes it can be. Depending on what you are crafting, the cut ends will be much lighter in color so you will have to consider that. You WON'T be able to get the color to match if you aren't going to treat them in any way or plan on using a semi or transparent stain. Only a solid stain or paint will remedy that and they have to be compatible with treated wood.

the sales description states brown, but the product description says green. which is it?

I've had them up for about eight months, through the winter, and they are a light brown, without stain. Out of seven posts 2 are twisted and 3 or 4 have splits. I am going to fill the splits and replace the most twisted post.

Why cant this be used for fencing?

The manufacturer has not treated this type of post for “in ground use” meaning that it will last against weathering (rain, snow, etc ) but not against fungal rot( underground moisture). That being said, there have been plenty that have used these posts for fencing and have not encountered a problem. Rotting will take years to disintegrate a 4x4 post. I have used mine for main posts on my deck and they have held up fine I hope this helps

Correct- it is not nominally sized like framing lumber. It is actually 4" x 4" square.

Very simple installation - just popped a few screws in. within two days of install, it was starting to split lengthwise. they refuse to exchange it and the splitting has become worse in the days since. super unhappy with this.
