Incredibly soft; scratches if you use it!
Boiled water the first time we used it, some boiled over and it pitted; cooking chili that night in a barely used Pampered Chef pot, moved it 1/4 turn to stir; took it off the burner and there was a gash. Tried the special glass top cleaner/scratch remover and it hasn't helped at all after five tries. Called Whirlpool Customer Support and they said they couldn't (wouldn't) do anything for us. Now we're afraid to use it because it scratches so easy. We've talked to friends who have other brands without this problem. Needless to say we are very, very disappointed

Scared to use it! Disappointed.
We bought this cooktop. Loved the look of all black and features seemed direct to the point, which they are. Heats fast. However, after the 1st use, we noticed around the burner it started to gray. It almost looks like the black underneath the bottom of the cooktop has come off. We used it a 2nd time and used a different burner, same thing. Now i am scared to death to use the other 2 burners. After 2 uses it looks like we have had the cooktop for 5 years. I called Whirlpool. They are sending me a 'sample' of the cleaner they recommend but said cosmetic issues are not covered and that is all they can do. I am very disappointed. Brand new appliances and this one looks old already. I expected the appearance of this cooktop to last a LOT longer than 2 uses. I bought a sleek looking cooktop for a reason. Never again. I wish now I would have bought one with actual burners. I included a picture. Hard to see because of mirror in the glass but hopefully this will help others make a better decision than I did.

Do Not Buy
Purchased this cook top several years back and have an on going series of problems from the beginning.
I like the way it cooks but it is not reliable and the techs that Whirlpool sent out had no idea how to fix it. When I got a local appliance repair shop to come out they were able to diagnose the problem and repaired several times. Went down one more time and am now informed that the entire inside of the unit needs to be replaced which will run the same amount as getting a new one.
Have made numerous attempts to get resolution from Whirlpool but no one will respond.
Have read numerous reviews and many seem to have the same experience. My advice is to stay away from this product.

Don't Pick This One
After getting error code F47 on 1/2 of burners, the repair service could not repair without ordering parts that we back ordered for one month. Unit then completely failed. Repair crew made two appointments and cancelled the third. THis was the last straw. Fortunately, Lowes said they would take the old broken one and gave use credit for a different Unit. Of course, we chose a different Brand.
Shame on Whirlpool
Thank you Lowes for getting me out of a disasterous purchase.

Think Twice
Was all set for a gas top and the salesman talks my wife into an induction cook top. Looked cool and worked good, for six months and now it is toast. The power module failed and they are back ordered for three to four weeks. Now we are cooking on a Coleman stove in a new kitchen remodel. You decide, is it worth it? For me, no. Big mistake that will not be repeated in future purchases.

glass cracked completely
second whirlpool appliance to break right after warranty ends .glasstop cracked from top to bottom even with the great care we use with heavy pots.
poor design with both large burners at the back, makes it awkward to use without hitting my head on the overtop microwave.
only one burner is actually rapid induction.

Almost like gas
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We recently moved from a home that had a gas range that we loved to a home where gas was not an option. So we researched cooktops and chose the whirlpool 30" induction. We are really happy with this appliance, it heats up quickly and is adjustable to a lower temp when needed. Th controls are touch and easy to use and makes it very sleek. The surface itself seems very durable so far, unlike other smooth cooktops that scratch pretty easily. So far it has stayed like new and we use it everyday, many days twice. An unexpected bonus is that we are able to have a large drawer right under it, no need for that fake panel that looks like a drawer. Love it!

Cooktop great! Manufacturer not so much
My husband and I both love this cooktop! It has worked great for 2 years. Then suddenly it just stopped working, totally dead. The first thing we did was get our electrician to look at it to be sure it was getting power - it was. So we called Lowes because of the extended warranty we purchased - which I highly recommend. It took 2 weeks to get a tech here, he had to order a part and come back to install it, he couldn't get back for another 2 weeks and guess what? Wrong part. So another guy came with him - they ordered another part and scheduled another visit. Then next time 2 different guys came out and one of them really seemed to know what he was talking about, guess what still wrong part, had to order again and whirlpool said they couldn't find the part because in their computer this cooktop doesn't exist! The next week they called and said they figured out what part it needed but it was on back order for another month! It has now been 7 weeks we have not been able to cook and will be another 3 weeks before the part is even available. We have been in contact with Lowes warranty service this whole time and they have been really trying to help, we finally decided to go with the 'buy out' which means we will get a gift card for lowes for the amount we paid for this cooktop. So now we will purchase another but it won't be Whirlpool!
