We painted a mural on a fence with exterior latex paint. We want to seal the mural with a clear finish to protect the paint since it is developing tiny cracks. Is your product good for this?

Posée par: Kennybob
Hello,we don't offer sealers for paint. Our products are designed to penetrate into select bare surfaces and the paint will not allow that to happen. Regards, Thompson’s WaterSeal Customer Support

I have a 32 year old deck and have used the oil base clear sealer about every 5 years. I would now like to use the water base sealer. Will this be ok after having used the oil base sealer before. Its been about 8 years since I have used the oil base.

Posée par: Gary1
Hello. As long as the wood is completely porous, you can apply any of our products on your deck. Before reapplying our products, we recommend doing a "splash test" prior to application to ensure the surface will accept our product. The water will do one of two things: 1-absorb into the surface making it slightly darker. This is a sign that another coat of product will effectively absorb into the surface and you can apply our product successfully. 2-water will bead, puddle or just run off. This means that the surface is already sealed and our products will just form an oily, tacky layer on top. We would not recommend applying our products at this time. You would then need to either let the existing coat weather naturally and perform the water splash test weekly/monthly, or use our stripper and then do the water splash test again; and once the surface is determined porous; you can reapply/apply our product. This step is crucial to our product performing as it should. This information is listed on the backs of all of our waterproofing products. Regards, Thompson’s WaterSeal Customer Support

You no longer have oil based water seal? This water based sealer is to thick for my sprayer, what are my other options?

Posée par: Pat M

what do I have to do to prepare the deck , it is pressure treated wood ( new)

Posée par: marcu
Hello. You need to first let the new pressure treated wood cure for 30 days. The air and surface temperatures need to be at least 50 degrees during application and for 48 hours, with no rain during this time. Then perform the water splash test to ensure that the surface is ready to accept our product. This is done by splashing some water on the surface. The water will do one of two things: *Absorb into the surface making it slightly darker. This is a sign that another coat of product will effectively absorb into the surface and you can apply our product successfully. *Water will puddle or just run off. This means that the surface is already sealed and our products will just form an oily, tacky layer on top. We would not recommend applying our products at this time. You would then need to either let the existing coating/stain/sealer weather naturally and perform the water splash test monthly, or use a stripper/remover and then do the water splash test and once the surface is determined porous; you can reapply/apply our product. As long as the water test shows that the surface is absorbent, then you can proceed to perform a test area. This is important for two reasons -- it will help you learn how much product to apply before the surface is saturated and also show you what degree of discoloration will occur. As you will notice, once the surface has absorbed a certain amount of our product, then the remaining waterproofer just sits on the surface and can lead to oiliness, blotchiness, or discoloration. For this reason we recommend test areas to determine the porosity of the substrate and how much product you can apply in any given area. Regards, Thompson’s WaterSeal Customer Support

Is this product oil based?  I have used oil before, some time ago, and it attracted dust and dirt.  How does your product compare?

Posée par: evans33
Hello. No, unfortunately we no longer make the oil based formula for this product. Regards, Thompson's Waterseal Customer Support.

Can this be used on cedar wood after staining the wood?

Posée par: Ttnakvee
Hello,Unfortunately the Thompson's Waterseal products cannot be used over an existing stain. They are penetrating and will not be able to do so if the surface is still sealed. Our products are meant to be used by themselves on a bare surface. Regards, Thompson's Waterseal Customer Support

Imperméabilisant est évalué 3.3 de 5 de 45.
Rated 3 de 5 de par Has the formula changed? I had some 5 or maybe 10 year old Thompson water seal. I put it on with my old Thomspon sprayer and it worked great. However, I swear the sealer was clear. Purchase a new can of sealer and it was milky and was very difficult to spary on my fence. The application was very blotchy. It look terrible but as it dried the apperance improved. Still have some sticky areas and wasted a lot of sealer because of how it sprayed.. I still recommend Thompson's water sealer because I have used it over 30 years with no problem. Makes me wonder if its my sprayer or if its the product. I may have to do the fence again to ensure proper coverage with a new sprayer and product.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Very disappointed We power washed and cleaned our deck and it looked brand new. We waited a day to be sure it was dry and applied this clear seal and I am so disappointed. This was 3 days of work and it looks horrible!! I have used this product for 30 years and have always loved the way it brightened and refreshed our deck. How do we fix this?

Rated 5 de 5 de par Finally waterproofed Due to many years of illness, sealing of our deck never got done. Just found someone to complete the process after a good pressure cleaning. This poor abused 10 year old deck is now looking like it was just built and sealed. Am so happy with how Thompson's performed.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Very Effective on Older Concrete Pavers I was looking for a product to bring some life and colour back to an older patio made of concrete pavers. I had tried other products with limited success. Thompson's Multi-Surface did the trick. It is cheap and very effective. It improved the colour while sealing it. To prepare all I did was used a pressure washer. I tried to roll it on with limited success so quickly discovered that spraying it with a pump sprayer worked best. I did find it useful to use a paint roller to even out the spray. Two coats were necessary. There are also good videos on Youtube to show you how to apply.the product. I have also found that the product may go a little milky if rained upon early after the application but this will disappear

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good waterproof coverage I bought this product 2 years ago. I have used it on the wood plank floor to my trailer. It has been great protection for the wood in my trailer.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Thompson Needs to Develop a New Formula My experience is the same as the other recent reviews, i.e. leaves the concrete sticky and blotchy. Used two gallons with a garden sprayer as recommended on the can. When I ran out and had to go purchase another gallon, the nearest store didn’t carry Thompson’s. Purchased Olympic and it worked perfectly. That is the only part of my concrete that looks good. So, it appears that it is possible to develop a formula that works, even with the VOC restrictions. This is not an acceptable product.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Tackiness I applied this product according to the instructions. my surface was acid stained concrete which is 7 years old. I applied the sealer with a roller and the temperature was approximately 85 degrees. After over 48 hours the sealer was tacky, so much so that you could not walk on the surface. Pressure washing twice with a detergent had a minimum effect. Only after two more cleanings with a degreaser was I able to walk on the surface with still some tacky spots which needed attention. I have used other water based concrete sealers before which have all had very fast drying times and did not remain tacky even after several applications within the same day. Always used Thompson's products in the past and I thought I would revisit the product line. I am sorry I did.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Garbage Don't waste your money. No longer clear. A white pastey mix that plugs the sprayer and is way lighter finish than the same jug I bought 2 years ago. Doesn't apply very easily and will require a second coat. Totally not impressed! What a waste of time and money!!!
