do you need wrenches to adjust chain tension?

Posée par: silica
Hello silica. Thank you for your question. The PR4218 comes with a scrench in the handle which you can use to adjust the chain tension. Thank you for considering Poulan Pro for your outdoor power equipment needs.

Does it include a carrying case?

Posée par: Tony12345
Hello Tony12345. Thanks for your question. The Poulan Pro PR4218 does not come with a carrying case. I would recommend checking out the Husqvarna Powerbox Lowe's Item #103759. It has more than enough room to carry your saw and bar oil. Thanks for consider Poulan Pro for your outdoor power equipment needs.

Scie à chaîne à essence, moteur 2 temps, 42 cm³, 18" est évalué 3.0 de 5 de 305.
Rated 1 de 5 de par Recoil starter is worthless I bought this saw and used it for a few hours last winter to buck up some brush from storms we had. Then, it went into storage until yesterday, when I took it out to cut down a bruiser Chinese juniper. The saw started fine on the first pull, and I got one cut in before setting it down to idle while I moved a piece of debris. Second pull, the starter cord came out in my hand. I opened up the saw, and realized it had pulled right through the plastic retaining wheel. What a useless piece of garbage. This saw has been stored in a dry basement, in its case for a few months, and I've probably pulled that starter a dozen times...Now, I've got a mess of debris in the front yard that I can't do anything with until I get a new wheel. Cheaply made junk, but I guess you get what you pay for...

Rated 3 de 5 de par Good Value for the Price Use this chainsaw for trim work On limbs & medium sized tree cutting and does an acceptable job. This the 2nd Poulan Pro 18" I have owned. My only problem, right out of the box is the carburator & throttle idle speeds both need adjusting or you can keep the saw running. I'm familiar with the adjustments so it's just annoying to say the least! However, for someone who isn't familiar with the adjustment procedure & doesn't have the carburator tool it has to be very frustrating! Can't understand why Poulan doesn't fix that problem as it's routinely pointed out with new purchases. Other than that, not a bad saw for the money.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Poulan PR4218 18 inch chainsaw Used the saw for six hours straight without a hitch. Starts easy. I use the premixed 50:1 fuel in a can so no hassle mixing oil and gas. Not too heavy and cuts very well. Extra chain included. Nice machine. Would have given 5 stars but the chain kept loosening up and I had to stop and adjust it a few times. Easy to do but the nuts that hold the adjuster bracket on may wear out quickly. Easy enough to replace with lock nuts. Good buy for a Poulan saw. Happy with my purchase.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Pull start failure Starts right up.... 3rd time it used it... see pic. Can't anyone make good equipment anymore... 90 degrees sweating my butt off and this. Last poulan product I'll buy. I'm sure even though it's less than a year old I'll have to produce all kinds of proof to get it fixed...

Rated 1 de 5 de par Poorly made- will fail you The starter pulley is very poorly designed and the chord will pull out. It also runs through bar and chain oil at an usually high rate. Motor runs strong, granted you can start it before the chord pulls out. Waiting to hear back.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Cheaply built I bought a poulan pro 4218 chainsaw from tractor supply 2 years ago and used it twice. Went to cut down a tree a month ago and it wouldnt stay running. As soon as it got hot it would quit. I didn’t want to wait to have a repair shop fix it so went and bought another 4218 from tractor supply and used it to finish what I started. Today a month later I went to use it and the starter rope broke. I should of learned my lesson the first time, spend more money up front for a good one. Wish I would of read the reviews.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Great saw I use my saw as part of an Alaskan mill. Which is pretty much ripping logs, this saw runs great. It starts a lot easier than the older models. Does not bog down on knots.
Date de publication: 2017-08-08
Rated 4 de 5 de par Light use, but very good so far! I've used it for a couple of hours clearing out some fallen trees. Only real complaint was that the choke was a little difficult to get into 1/2 choke. The instructions want you to use that setting during start up. However, it doesn't seem to have a clear click in to place there. At 18 inches, I haven't come across a log to wide to cut -- but I know they are out there. So, from a normal home improvement tool perspective, it's probably fully sufficient. But not if you want to run a brush clearing business. I wish I could say something about dependability but just haven't had it that long. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 de 5 de par Chain Saw Fueled. Fired right up and cuts like a champ!
Date de publication: 2017-09-13
Rated 1 de 5 de par unusable saw After reading multiple reviews of this being a good saw, I bought one. After getting it home, I went to start it and the pull cord came completely out. I laughed. Hey, stuff happens. I returned it to lowes and got another one. Got it home, it fired up. I cut one branch and it died. When I tried to restart it...yeah you guessed it, the pull cord came completely out of it. Two saws returned the same day. This product is junk. I went to the local Ace hardware and bought a Stihl. I recommend you do the same.
Date de publication: 2018-07-04
Rated 1 de 5 de par New junk I've owned a poulan pro 18" 42 cc for years. If I'd known how severely the quality had gone down I'd not bought a 2nd. Choke lock quit. Open it up, it's a skinny cable and a twisted thin wire. Parts are not inner changeable from prior models. Giving huskarvana a bad name.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Good chainsaw for the price I have owned a few of these over the years. It was originally the PP4218. I do a fair amount of cutting in some oaks, walnut, maple, and locust. These do the job and replacement carbs are cheap when needed. They are not the most powerful or the same quality as a Stihl but you are paying usually less than 1/3 the price. I have been using this for about 2 months and so far it is holding up well. A few improvements over the PP4218 include the gas and oil caps and the chain adjustment.
Date de publication: 2018-01-02
Rated 1 de 5 de par Frustrating I bought this saw maybe a year and a half ago. Used it a total of maybe 2 hours. This weekend was the first time I had to use it clearing a downed tree about 16 inches in diameter. The saw worked fine on about three cuts and all of a sudden started losing power; then started dying and became really difficult to restart. I got more tired trying to start this thing than clearing 16" logs. Finally it died for the last time and won't start. I got only half the work done that I should have done because I had to use my old 14" saw.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Died on first date!!! Got this as a gift. 1st time I used it (today), I took my time and followed the instructions. Mixed gas, added chain oil & gas, followed start up procedures. It took several pulls to start. I used it about 15 - 20 minutes total as I cut about 6 - 7 limbs. As I completed cutting a limb, it stalled out. I stopped and set it aside to get into position to start it up. As I pulled the cord to restart, it snapped back. I thought the card has gotten off the spool. I took it to my garage and removed the cover. That was NOT the problem, The engine was seized up! Now I have a 1/2 finished project that I need to cut with my hand saw! And my new chainsaw is crapped out! I've never had a product fail so quickly!!!
Date de publication: 2019-08-04
Rated 2 de 5 de par The good and the bad We bought this for when we had limbs come down - we could easily cut them ourselves. Used very little in two years. This year, we had our two trees taken down professionally but asked to keep the wood. We used our saw to cut it up, and the tank the holds the bar and chain oil completely melted, allowing the bar and chain oil to run everywhere. Upon inspection, there was only one screw attaching it to the saw. I can't imagine how quickly this would have gone wrong had we used this on a regular basis. Thankfully, we don't have a need for a saw now, but if we ever need another, we won't buy this brand. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 de 5 de par Had to repair right out of box Filled with fuel and oil. When I primed the saw fuel started to pour out the bottom of the saw. Took off housing cover and noticed fuel line not attached to carburetor. Reattached fuel line adjusted chain and cut four scrub trees. Went to cut 5th tree and saw threw the chain. Tried to reattach chain and chain was so messed up it would not go back into the bar. Should have listened to wife and returned. Once saw was running it did cut smooth. Believe I just ended up with bad saw.
Date de publication: 2017-09-04
Rated 1 de 5 de par Do yourself a big favor. Get a good chainsaw!!! It works great out of the box, but wait for it... Even if you drain the fuel between uses it gets mean. It takes forever to get it running smooth to where it can get through even a small log and even then it bogs down. Mine got to the point where it won’t even start. My mother and sister’s houses were covered in trees from hurricane Michael. I couldn’t find a chainsaw anywhere. I asked a friend if he had one. He did. I show up to get it and it was the same one I had. I was very reluctant to count on this thing, but I had no choice. Guess what? It did the same thing and then it started leaking fuel all over me and from where I have no clue. 2 of the same saws built so poorly is enough for me to know these saws are very poorly designed and with terrible components. Please don’t buy one!!
Date de publication: 2018-10-14
Rated 1 de 5 de par Terrible On the 3rd pull the string came loose. Had to go to the closest Poulan service center where they charged me to reconnect the rope even though I insisted they charge Poulan since I had bought the saw 6 hours prior. Ran good during the first use, after that nothing but a headache. Chain continually pops off because the chain tensioner doesn’t work. Can’t even get chain to stay tight long enough to get the bolts tightened back down. No matter how much I adjusted the carb I couldn’t get it to idle right either. Getting a return and purchasing a Stihl. Some things you can’t go cheap on and apparently chainsaws are one of them.
Date de publication: 2018-06-11
Rated 1 de 5 de par NONE on the PP 4218A PRO By far this is the worse chainsaw I have ever owned. In fact its my second PP 4218A. The first one was replaced by the retailer. I got to use this saw for maybe 10 min before it stopped. Proper oil to gas mixture I don't understand. I have a 18" Greenworks electric saw that will run circles around this Poulan. You have to have patients to try to get these things running. Think Twice before putting out the cash on this product.
Date de publication: 2018-02-18
Rated 1 de 5 de par Worst chainsaw in the world Along with EVERYONE ELSE in the comments, I needed the chainsaw to remove some storm debris, went to start the Poulan Pro PR4218 and the pull starter rope ripped right out of the plastic pulley rig. This would have been just the second time using it. I might have to file a class-action just because it makes me THAT MAD and is CLEARLY AN ONGOING PROBLEM. Unless a metal replacement magically arrives in my mailbox I won't ever be buying a Poulan again. They all use the same system and parts so DO NOT BUY A POULAN CHAINSAW.
Date de publication: 2020-08-16
Rated 4 de 5 de par So far so good Bought this saw new at a pawn shop. Put gas and oil in it and it fired up fine. Used it a little yesterday and cut fine. Its not a heavy duty commercial saw but its not the price or weight of those either. Its best for smaller limbs and trees. I think Poulan makes the Craftsman's saws, look the same. I had 1 of those for 20+ years with no problems and have a bunch of chains for it. That it why I bought this one. Only time will tell if this one hold up. Does seem cheaper made that the old Craftsman though. More plastic, as everything these days. Throw away culture. Instead of built to last, buy once and keep.
Date de publication: 2019-10-24
Rated 1 de 5 de par Piece of Garbage ~ Bought two of these from Lowes to clean up from Hurricane Irma. First one, right out of the box, the pull cord came off. Returned it immediately for another one. On the second use of the new one, pull cord came off again. Obviously Poulan has a quality control issue. Don't waste your money. Spend a little more for a good one!
Date de publication: 2017-10-08
Rated 1 de 5 de par Waste of Metal Bought this thing for light to medium work around my property. It’s a piece of junk. It sucks gas like a saw four times it’s power, the Oiler dumps oil and smokes under load, and god help you if you stop applying power to check progress because it will die and invariably take 25 pulls to restart. My advice is spend a bit more and go with a better saw. I’m already looking to return this and plop down the extra cash for a Husqvarna or Stihl
Date de publication: 2018-07-05
Rated 4 de 5 de par Poulan PR4218 42-cc 2-cycle 18-in Gas Chainsaw wit The chainsaw is very easy to start. I was able to get it running after a few pulls straight out of the box. I used the TRUFUEL premixed fuel for the chainsaw. The only downside of the chainsaw is that the chain has to be tightened up very frequently. After the first use, my chain had "slung off". This is how I learned how to put a chain on a chainsaw and tighten it. It is an affordable, easy start chainsaw. I would only recommend it if you are willing to put up with having to make adjustments to the chain. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Date de publication: 2019-03-08
Rated 1 de 5 de par Piece of crap Piece of crap. Follow the instructions in the manual. Wouldn’t start until approximately 30 minutes had passed. Finally got it started, let It runs for one minute to warm up. Every time I pull the trigger it would stall out. Try to start it a fourth time in the rope came right off of the chainsaw. Do not waste your time.
Date de publication: 2018-07-20
Rated 1 de 5 de par Poor quality I have had this for about 9 months now, 1st day using it, started good, idled fine. Day 2, I guess it flooded, now the only way to start is full throttle, and will not idle at all. Pull cord broke soon there after, engineered a fix with gorilla glue and a zip tie. Now, it seems the chain gear has messed up and the chain will not stay on. Also, now the engine will not turn over, without a chain on. Seems that I should of taken my friends advise and gone with a stihl, and had a real chainsaw. Is be curious is poulan stands behind the warranty,
Date de publication: 2019-07-21
Rated 4 de 5 de par Decent smaller chain saw -- good price I was conflicted after reading the other reviews -- it was about 50/50. 4/5 star reviews or 1/2 star reviews. I had an idea what was going on, but I wasn't sure. I bought it anyway. As I've used two previous 18" Poulan chain saws over the years and I have ~10 extra blades (I take them to the shop for sharpening every few years). I'm babying it for longevity. Using just that designer "no ethanol" pre-mix (ethanol is supposed to be hard on chain saws). Also, once I'm done I drain all the gas back into the bottle and run the saw to get all gas out of the fuel lines & carb. I confess I didn't do that on every one of my previous chain saws -- and I'm sure that contributed to the shortened life span and occasional hard starting. Following the supplied instructions, it starts fine. And idles -- low! It's been so long since I've had a chain saw idle that low and even -- I thought something was wrong. I cut for a couple of hours. Once warm, one pull and it starts again. Of course with new blace cuts fast, smooth and easy -- like knife through butter. So - what was going on with the reviews? I speculate -- three things. 1. Human nature. Those with problems are more likely to give reviews than those pleased with product. So although most are pleased, if you look at the reviews -- it's about 50/50. 2. SIDS. A lot of the complaints were about problems right out of box. Initial hard starting, pull cord breaking, fuel line loose out of box. If you can survive that first day, the complaints largely taper off. I was fully prepared to drive it back to Lowe's; I was reading the warranty details closely. 3. Improper storage/maintenance. The other major complaints were "hard to start after stored for a while". I'm convinced they stored it with gas in the carb, probably used service station gas w/ ethanol in it too. For more details about the evils of ethanol with small hand-held two-cycle engines, read this clear explanation: https://www.husqvarna.com/us/forest/basics/ethanol-free-fuel/ Years ago, before ethanol was popular gas station gasoline + pre-mix oil was fine.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Bottom-line Product, Bottom-line Parts My son bought it as a gift for me... so, glad I didn't waste the money on it... Because, I've had to replace the pull rope, the spark plug and had to take it to a repair shop to have it adjusted so it would stop stalling out. It still has issues with staying running after it gets warmed up. It STILL has issues with staying running or cranking, again, if you kill it to get set up to cut more.

Rated 4 de 5 de par Made an adjustment, runs great. Bought it about a year ago, at the local big box store. It died on quick throttle closings, seemed to idle too slow and was not quick to rev. I figured it needed a carb adjustment. I turned the idle screw Clockwise about 1 turn (in total). It does not die anymore, revs quick, has good power, starts on the first pull, and the Oregon chain cuts awesome. Would have been nice to have it run that way out of the box....but we are at almost 3000' altitude, my guess is it was rich and opening the idle screw a bit gave it a bit more air. As far as the pull starter, I read the reviews, and new not to yank it like I am trying to start a lawnmower with a 5 foot pull rope. It is only about 18". Follow the manual, the carb adjustment is in there for a reason.
