Description

Works great for corners and angles
I chose ditra over backer board because I was retiling our entryway and closet. I chose this over cement board because there are a lot of angles and corners to get in and I didn't want to mess with cutting cement board. Very easy to use, and if you make a small mistake it's not a big deal like with cement board. It adds an extra drying step to the process, but the ease of use and quality is well worth it. Another advantage is that it allows movement of subfloor without disturbing your tiles. Only downfall is it is a bit pricey, but if your gonna do the job, do it right!

New Ditra User
I'm a DIY handyman and I had a 300sq ft concrete pad to cover. Lowes can special order larger rolls but as it worked out handling and piecing in 54sq ft strips was more manageable with the laydown process. The product is not cheap but is easy to work with and works as intended (watch the online video tutorials) --I didn't want the stress relief cracks in the underlying pad to propagate up through my efforts & expensive porcelain tiles. Ditra provides peace of mind as recommended by a Professional Tile Setter Friend!

Great even for beginners
I have just recently remodeled my bathroom. During my tile purchase my father suggested this instead of regular tile board as it is better. One roll was all i needed and was easy to put down. precutting and dry laying was quicker than the board and was easy to cut around flange and openings. It is also easy to level out and get a flat floor if done correctly. Just remember to use unmodified mortar when putting tiles down as the instructions said. I did not know until was ready and had to take mortar back and exchange.

Excellent & easy product to work with & to use.
No messy cutting, very easy to size & conform to the area I worked on with very minimal waste. Best of all, added minimal height - just over 1/8" to the base height. Also made applying thinset uniformly & to the right thickness a breeze.
Highly recommended.
Only wished my local Lowes carried this product. Other Lowes stores in the area stock this item, but mine does not so had to order on-line & pay the delivery charge.

Easy to work with in a small, narrow space.
With a space 32" wide and cutouts needed for the tub plus other in and out spaces, we were pleased with how easy it was to cut and lay the product. I think using the backer board would have been more difficult. In addition, the 1/8 " material allowed us to put the tile under the tub edges for a smother look. Getting the adhesive worked into the inverted ridges was a challenge. Hope we did it well enough - time will tell.

Three years later
I liked the thinner overall floor thickness this product offered over conventional cement board. It was easy to install over my wood subfloor and I loved the final finish in my kitchen, dinning room, hallway and two bathrooms. Three years later I find there are several cracked porcelain tiles, 12x12 and 18 x18 sizes. I never had this problem with cement backer board so I'm thinking it could be because this product is not as solid (even though I was careful to fill the cavities as instructed) and the tiles cannot flex with it. I'm going to have to redo now that I am selling the house. The smaller 8 x8 tiles seem to be fine. I have no problem with cracking in my bathrooms where tiles are smaller and less traffic. Not sure how to rate it. Expensive, but has it's advantages and disadvantages. Next time I'll use cement board.

ditra is awsome
I was hesitant to use ditra under my porcelain tile on the counter top and island. It worked very well, easy to use and cut to the size I needed. The mortar took a couple of hours longer to set (I guess because it doesn't absorb the moisture the way cement board does). Overall, I'm impressed with the product and will use it when I tile the floor.

Love this product
This product makes tile prep so much more manageable. It is very easy to cut to size and even easier to install.
As tile novices, we used Ditra in a bathroom many years ago with excellent results. The latest purchase was at the request of a tile installer. He loves this product also!
