yes, it locks when you close the door. there is a handle to turn off the autolock from inside to use it just as a handle

Can the direction of the lever be changed from left to right
Yes, you are given a tool which you can pop the lever off and switch the direction from left to right and visa versa

my key pad wont light up
you need to push the schlage button at top to light it up? or maybe you need to change the battery, or battery may be loose. I suggest disconnecting battery and then reconnecting it.

Numbers peeling only 6weeks old
Bought 6weeks ago works well but the numbers are already starting to peel suppose to have a wear resistant coating but must not have one . What is with that?

Exactly what we needed
I bought two of these for some office doors, they are easy to install and use. The option to use a key is nice, just in case the batteries don’t get changed out in time. I was looking for a mechanical option that doesn’t need batteries, but so far these are doing great! The mode option is nice too, in which you have either keypad entry or you can put it into passthrough using the deadbolt lever.

Great price, easy to install, works well.
Purchased two of these when they came on sale. They are easy to install and do the job. I used these to secure two interior doors in our office so I can't say how they hold up to exterior door use. they replaced existing keyed locking handles and fit perfectly. Having to remove the "deadbolt" side of the lock to replace the battery is a bit of a pain, but I didn't find any other locks for this price that had a different battery access method. Purchased online and they were shipped out quickly.

Easy install
Bought this to replace traditional lock set. 20 minutes to install and 5 minutes to program. Only fiddly part is setting the wiring in place not to get pinched.
