By fire code in Ontario I have to cover the spray foam in my rimjoists in my basement.  It’s a hassle to cut out pieces of drywall to cover it all which is what people do. Can I use this stuff instead and still have it pass code?

Posée par: Mark A
no most likely as this stuff is actually not a fire break or stop. It is an acceptable solution for protections for residential construction by some city inspectors. You will need to use 5/8 x-type drywall (firerated); plywood/wood that is secured; or easiest if your inspector allows: 5-1/2" of rockwool insulation pushed against the sprayfoam

How many hours is this foam rated at?

Posée par: Alex123451
Thank you for posting your inquiry. The DAP Touch 'n Foam Fire Break Foam Meets UL 1715, UL 94 V-O, modified ASTM E814 for use as an approved fireblock penetration sealant. This product does not claim an "hourly rating".

Can I use this to insulate exhaust vent for gas heater in garage near drywall

Posée par: JoePer
Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Seal/Touch ‘n Foam products. Cured polyurethane foam products are combustible, as such, these products should not be exposed to temperatures above 240°F (116°C), open flames or sparks, nor are they recommend for use in high heat applications.

Gas fire place has air draft that comes in. Hot water line is close to air draft. Installer did not seal the vent properly my hot water line gets frozen when temp is -10 or lower, can I uses this product, as the vent creates heat from the fire place?

Posée par: Rogerf
Yes. It is fire/heat resistant.

Is this product meet or exceed the OBC when applied in basements

Posée par: Total care
The Ontario Building Code has many sections dealing with polyurethane foam. We do not know which section you are referring to. Touch N Foam Professional polyurethane spray foam system 15/200/600 have the following CCMC listing: • Complies with CAN/ULC S711.1-05 for Bead Applications CCMC 13600-L Evaluation Listing. • Class 1/A fire rated formula.

Can I use this in directly sealing electrical light and fan outlets on top of the attic? I'm trying to seal gaps on the attic before I add more insulation.

Posée par: Tarsier
Spray foam can be used to seal gaps allowing air leakage around electrical outlets and other penetrations. Do not apply spray foam inside of electrical components or boxes. Do not apply spray foam to bare electrical wires.

Is this considered non combustible? Can be used to seal the opening in cement wall around a class A chimney? (insulated chimney) which requires clearance to combustibles of 2 inches.

Posée par: Mark Boles
All polyurethane spray foam is combustible. Building code does not allow direct contact with chimney.
