I am an avid woodworker and just started exploring hand tools instead of power. I needed a tool to shape mallet handles and this just fits the bill. Like the other Stanley tools I own, it may not compete with Veritas, but for the price, Stanley turns out good, functional tools at a reasonable price.

Mass produced excellence
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been using these for years to shape my guitar necks. I’ve owned dozens of different shaves. From the boutique makers products to hand-made in Appalachia tools that look like sticks and I’ve enjoyed using them all however, the Stanley is my go-to shave. Anyone, anywhere in the world can pick one up at a reasonable price and be assured that they are using an industry standard, high quality tool.

Terrible tool
Blade poorly fitting. Jams up after each stroke. Nowhere near as good as the originals made in UK or US

Reasonable tool for the price
Excellent fine blade adjustability, good chip rejection and consistent operation. The handles looked uncomfortable but fit the hands well. Does not compare to a more expensive model in terms of finesse but it is priced to suit well.
