Horrible
With a low price point thought it would be good for small tasks and light clean up...wrong. Blade chipped at first pass on soft pine, been unable to get the dent out. Blade doesn't secure well, walks from pass to pass, mouth doesn't allow for clearing of shavings, the adjustments for the blade tightness are right under hand so each pass you knock it further and further out of line. Thought it would handle light work well, now it's handling the bottom of the trash can. Awful, awful, stay away from all the box store grade stanley planes. Got a No.4 as well...equally as bad. Waste of money.

No frills just a "plane" plane!
Have one of these as a hand me down from my grandfather and it's one of my go to planes for day to day work. the angle is low enough for smooth detail and it can be quickly adjusted for more bite when needed. The construction is incredibly bulletproof and it's one of my favorites for shaping funiture pieces from reclaimed wood. If your just a collector it's easy to walk away from but if you also use planes daily this is a great add on to the box.

Poor quality construction
Steel does not hold an edge.
Screws do not properly secure blade.
It is makes me sad to see how far Stanley's standards for quality have fallen.

For the money great be block plane
I'm a professional woodworker, typically I shy away from box store tools because they're over produced. While I was there getting sand paper I saw this for 56 bucks and thought Hmm looks ok.
I picked threw 4 of them (just checking the machining for the throut and frog and found one that looked ok. I half expected to out alot of grinding inyo it to make if actually flat and precise ( why I buy Veritas and le Nielsen products ) while grinding and yea I had to do "some" ok found the it was actually pretty flat already took me no more than 35 mins to finish the hole exterior surface! Might seem like alot of time but it certainly produce professional results.
Ps never buy a hand tool like this unless your willing to actually make it perfect. Nothing's great our of the box

works great
just bought this- sanded the base as per internet instructions for a new plane.Used it to level out some cuts on my hand made mahogany planter box and it worked great - nice and smooth. After all the bad reviews I have seen on planers I was skeptical but if you set it up properly its fine. Saved me a whole lotta sanding and dust . Check the internet for tune up instructions for planes
and you can't go wrong. I am a total newbie.
