Good Product but Quality Control Issues
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had this unit in for about 3 weeks now. I’m happy with the overall operation, but I ran into a frustrating quality control issue. After about a week of operation, I got an error code 10 which indicates an issue in the condensate trap or exhaust. After some review and redoing the work for good measure, the problem persisted. The condensate trap relief valve would drain when opened, but for some reason the unit wasn’t draining as expected through the primary drain. Eventually I took out the molded plastic drain component inside the unit and looked for an obstruction. Sure enough, there was a thin piece of plastic blocking the drain. It was flimsy and seemed to be left over from the manufacturing process. It came out easily, and the unit has worked well since.

Wonderful!
Everything I could hope for in a water heater! Upgraded from a 1980’s 50 gallon tank!!! I can run all appliances, bath and shower at once and never run out of hot water (purchased super high efficiency & 11 gpm)!!! The unit is conserving energy and space compared to the ancient tank we owned. We have had the unit for two months. Installed unit with expansion tank and descalar. The installer tied into the pre-existing drain used for HVAC system to accommodate the condensate. My utility room has gained so much room now. Plus, my preteen can take her extremely long showers and not inconvenience the rest of the house hold! Highly recommend.

Water usage.
I believe water shortage will be the next disaster Some cities already using desalinization. I usually wet down and turn off water to lather up, again to shampoo, again to shave, again to use conditioner and then to rinse. The water then gets cold sitting in the lines, also when someone uses hot water in another room. It is not real bad but I have to step away from the shower head and let the water warm again. This is summertime and I will be wondering what will happen in the winter. I wonder if you can insulate the plumbing lines. I know it is not recommended to insulate copper lines. We have a full basement under a single story home,

Very happy to have changed from a large tank water
We are very happy with our Rinnai tankless water heater as a replacement for our aging 75 Gal tank water heater. We have a noticeable reduction in our gas bill and unlimited hot water. We have a large house with five bathrooms. Initially, we had problems with the Rinnai model connecting to and controlling the recirculation system. The model installed could not control our recirculation pump. After figuring out the problem the installer chose a different Rinnai model, one with an integrated recirculation pump. That fixed the issue and we have been problem free ever since. We now enjoy much lower gas bills and unlimited hot water!

One of the best
This beast of a tankless was very easy to install. I was able to get this thing swapped in for our old tank heater very quickly. The whole family now gets showers as long as they want and I'm still saving money over the old 75 gallon tank heater. Rinnai is one of the best. Don't forget a condensate neutralizer and that you must run at least 18" of copper before you switch to PEX.

Mounting was easy, but I would suggest you have help from a second person with the placement of the unit. Also, be sure to read all the instructions before you start. My install required drywall, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing work. If you do not have all the these skills you may want to higher a contractor.

Rinnai RUC98iN Ultra Series Natural Gas
Most important feature to me is the unlimited hot water. When we built our home we had a large whirlpool bath installed in the master bath. We hardly used it because we didn't have enough hot water even with two 50 gal hot water heaters. With our Rinnai this is no longer an issue. I also like the idea I'm not heating water 24 hrs a day. I've already noticed a significant drop in my electric bill. When I was considering Rinnai I saw many comments about a long wait for hot water, but I truly hardly notice the difference. The wait I had for hot water to get to the far ends of the house is 5 sec longer at best. We've had our Rinnai 2 months now and I am very pleased with its performance.
