Can the cartridge filter be located before UV filter
Yes - In fact it must be in order for the UV to work. Bacteria can hide behind small particles and not killed if the filter is not first.

I change my UV light and the ballast red light still flash and beep what should i do the system is only a year old!
Hello,
After you replace the UV lamp, you need to re-set the lamp change reminder alarm in the ballast. This is done by pressing and holding the button on the ballast while connecting the ballast to the power supply. After a few seconds, the ballast will emit a solid beep confirming that the alarm has been re-set after which you can release the button. If you replace the lamp without resetting the alarm, the red LED will continue to flash. Hope this helps.

Does this help for sulfur smell
No not at all, the light only kills germs. You do need to add a filter and maybe you can get a carbon filter that will deal with both particles (mandatory) and sulfur but since it is a whole home system I suspect there will be too much volume to work well.

2 questions #1 have extremely high Sulpher bacteria, flouride and chloride. Will this remove those? #2 the cabin has two full bathrooms and kitchen.1500 square feet. Will this system be large enough for this house. 1 person living here full time.
Hope this late reply is still useful to you. The first thing to note is that the image on this web page and the heading "Complete System" are completely misleading. The R830 product is ONLY the UV disinfection unit. Therefore, and as others have noted here, it does nothing to remove undesired chemicals. You can look up the Rainfresh website to find out the specs on other components that may do what you need.
With regard to capacity, my system has two sediment filters (coarse and fine) and the UV unit, and it has no trouble serving my 2100 sq ft house with 2.5 baths and usually at least 2 people present. I'm not sure what happens to the flow rate if you start adding other components that you will need (like a carbon filter). Again, the detailed info on the Rainfresh website is reasonably good at telling you this. They will also answer email questions. Partly it depends on your water pressure too, I think, which might be an issue at a cabin.

2 questions actually...It says filter not included. what size filter does it take? and will a charcoal filter added to this setup reduce sulfur smell?
Pre filter and housing sold separately. Put whatever one you want in as long as it’s less than 5 microns. The carbon filter does help with sulphur smell at my acreage, I do find it slows the water down way more than the normal white ones with the yellow top. To fill up my daughters bath is a bit longer, but that’s ok for me, shower I haven’t noticed a difference

I only need calcium removal does this system offer that ?
No, this won't remove Calcium. You need an ion exchange water softener. UV is for treating water with bacteria and viruses and usually goes hand-in-hand with a water softener to maintain it's effectiveness.

can the ultra violet light be installed vertically?
It is designed for vertical installation to allow for easy drainage as shown on web site. If you mean horizontal then yes it can but it makes flushing it much more involved.

I am thinking of adding one of these at my cabin. I will only run the system 45-60 days per year. If I shut the system off when I am away will the lamp life last "One Year of running time"? and will the timer know that I shut it off on the off days?
The built in timer only "counts down" when the unit is powered up. The lamps life will be preserved when the system is unplugged from the power source.

Misleading Photo
The 5 micron filter is not included. I had to go back at the store to get one. Makes no sense as the filter is pictured on the box as well. But the system seems to be working very well.
