What was I thinking?!?
I had been struggling with my smaller Channellocks and a strap wrench to work on our swimming pool piping. What an idiot!
I finally bought these 16-inch pliers to remove a stuck pump impeller, then used them to reassemble the piping, including the large union nuts. (1-1/2" union, and the pliers still had one more groove to expand)
What a breeze! These pliers are like having an open-ended strap wrench: no more threading the strap around the piping.
Keep the strap wrench handy for a drinking water filter housing, but use these 16-inchers for everything else.
Yes, I did check out the imported alternative, but it would not have saved that much money. These pliers are beautiful, and they were made in the USA.

Excellent tool
Been wanting to get a pair of these big channel locks for some time now. I finally had a stuck oil filter - and I mean STUCK - so it was the perfect opportunity. (It's the big style filter that goes on a full size truck) I was worried that they'd cost upwards of 40 bucks, but was pleasantly surprised to see how low the price was. Channel Lock is THE name brand for this type of pliars, so go pick up the set - or at least this big boy.

If you don't own these, go buy them now!
I've had several sets of these large ChannelLock pliers; none have broken, but some have perhaps not been returned after being borrowed! I had to run out last week and buy a new set—couldn't get an oil filter wrench on my tractor's filter, but these worked just fine! Made in USA, and ultra-useful for those big jobs. Not to be used as a wrench, mind you, and with more finesse than a pipe wrench: you can get the tightest pickle jar lid loose with these! (Or open that PVC glue.) Or just use 'em as a universal oil filter wrench. For the price, they are a great deal, and will last a lifetime. Just don't loan them out.

Excellent 460 Channel Lock Pliers
I am a woman, and have to learn and do a lot of stuff myself, so I found that I sometimes need very large channel locks, for tightening/loosening larger items such as stuff for plumbing. I recently had a new sink installed and my plumber was a 71 yr old man that has been a plumber most of his life and was very impressed that I like to be right there watching and wanting to learn how he is doing everything. Having a daughter his self and knowing that my father use to teach me things before he passed away, he was more than willing to explain and even let me participate in installed my new drains and hooking up the plumbing. Low and behold we need a pair of 460's pliers. Which I never even paid attention that channel locks had numbers on them. I said, I just purchased a pair that week!!! I was SOOOO excited that I was actually going to be able to use my new pliers for the first time. They were very comfortable for my small hands to grip and turn the plastic PVC thing. I would recommend these to anyone needing a good pair of large channel locks, at this price you can't go wrong... you never know when you might need them. - Single in VA

For when smaller pliers won't do
Some jobs require larger jaw width, long jaws, and unique configuration offered by Channel Lock. These made compressing the brake cylinder easy when recently replacing the pads.

Channel locks
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Served its purpose while replacing toilet. Would have given it a 5 stars if it was priced lower.
