A well built shovel, and nothing more
This shovel is super easy to use. I got right in there and started moving dirt without first reviewing the owner's manual!!! I was about 4 hours into my project before I started getting interested in the additional features of the product. It turns out that there were no additional features, its just a shovel...
Seriously, I moved a whole lot of clay with this shovel, and although there were times that I thought I was going to snap the handle in half, it held up very nicely. It's quite a bit lighter than my all-steel shovel, and the large tabs atop the spade are a nice touch.

Its a shovel
This is a shovel, I got it today (5-1-13) because I needed a basic shovel.
Guess what, this is exactly that. Its a basic shovel.
It digs well. The wide "steps" help with applying downward force. Plenty of room for your foot to apply pressure.
Worked well, I used it as soon as I got off work for 2 1/2 hours.
I dug a ditch about 10 foot long a few inches deep with it.
I then used it to dig up some dirt off the side of the bank.
it seems very sturdy.
Key points.
Its cheap.
It works.
It seems sturdy.
Bad points.
It doesn't dig on its own.
It wasn't fee.

A good shovel.
I just bought this shovel today, and I am impressed. The wide step makes digging a breeze. Perfect for people like myself who break wooden handled shovels regularly. I literally tried breaking it and ended up with a very sore shoulder. It's abit pricey, but compared to going through 4 or 5 wooden shovels, its worth it.

great product
I am a farmer with a large commercial organic farm.. we don't spray weeds, we dig them up... and we use these shovels...wooden handles and cheap fiberglass shovels break...these come with a heavy duty handle and a lifetime warranty...but we've never had to use the warranty in 3 years of hard use. Oh and the flanges at the top of the shovel blade that give your boot an extra place to "kick" the shovel really make a difference.

So far so good
I have used this shovel as a replacement for others that have bitten the dust. So far I it has held up transplanting 4 small shrubs, digging out footers for a shed and spread about 8 cubes of mulch. The "foot press' is nice and large really allowing you to have extra power while digging. Handle had held up well so far but does have a little flex to it but has not broken.

Great price
Purchased this shovel b/c we needed one and it happened to be on sale. Our old shovel was wooden handle and had lasted for years. We decided to give this one a try. It is ok. Price was great. We were digging out some landscape that had been planted for about 7 years that consisted of small bushes. The roots were everywhere and some of the thicker ones were the size of an index finger. Upon chopping this bushes down and digging them out, the shovel bent where it connects to the handle. It still works but I don't know for how long. I was shocked it bent on such little roots. I would recommend if you were digging dirt. I would not recommend if you were digging roots.

Weak Handle
I bought the Lowes shovel about a month ago as a replacement to my 30 year old wooden handle shovel. The Lowes shovel was on sale and I was one of those who did not believe the reviews regarding the poor quality.
While I was digging holes yesterday to plant trees, I heard a snap. The handle cracked where it meets the steel neck of the shovel. What a disappointment..........I finished the project with my 30 year old wooden handle shovel. I'll take the Lowes shovel back today and see how their warranty works.

Needs a Sharper Edge
I will say that the edge for stepping is a nice feature. However, the blade being so dulled makes the step edge necessary. I have about three shovels and the ones without the step edge performed better because they had a more filed edge. The padded grip seems nice, but I'm not sure that it's a huge benefit either.
