does mechanism rust or rot in handle? Any issues?
Yes it does! Our handle snapped off and the crank mechanism is broken after only one year of use. Full of water and rust.

What sand do I need to buy to fill the base with? What are the size specifications of the base? (the picture only shows the cross stand)
What you see is what you get. You can weigh it down with patio stones or screw it into your patio.

What does the base look like and can it be filled with water?
The base is just the 4 legs as seen in the picture. Screw it down to your patio or use square patio savers to weigh it down.

I would like to know what size patio stone would you use for the base? Is it (4) 12x12 or 18x18

I have misplaced my instructions - can replacement parts be ordered from the manufacturer? A piece broke off in a windstorm, and if possible I’d like to fix it versus throwing away a 1-year old umbrella.
My umbrella got knocked over in by a heavy wind and a small piece broke that holds the umbrella at the top. Can I buy a replacement part somehow?
Is it come with the Base?
Does the umbrella food up for when not in use?

Buyer beware
I bought this same umbrella last June at Lowes in East Guillumbary (Newmarket). It snapped and broke in the wind this year the day I set it up. I asked about a warranty and was told I would have to speak with the manufacturer. I had the receipt and told them the item # and was told they don’t sell it this year - but there it is perhaps with a new SKU but virtually the exact same. It is broken at the point where the umbrella attaches which was plastic or some other material like that so is unfixable. All my previous umbrellas lasted several years this was disappointing. I would not recommend unless you just want one season of use.

Easy
I was worried about this umbrella because of several bad reviews on here. I visited the store to look at it up close and it seemed pretty solid, so I bought it. There's only 4 bolts for set up, everything else snaps in place. The in store display had 3 patio stones weighing down the base, so I did the same. Very easy to operate, a hand crank to raise and lower the canopy, and a bolt with handle to tighten the pole in place. 16 inch patio stones fit the base, and the base is 2 inches high.

Cheap
I realize this is the lower priced model but it’s better to spend more and get a better quality umbrella.
First time opening it this season after purchasing last year and it’s cracked and unusable (cracked where the umbrella connects to the arm). Was stored inside during the winter too.

Cheap
I bought this last year and didn’t even get a full season out of it. I weighed down the base with 4 patio stones as well as a water filled umbrella base weight. One day with a random bug gust of wind and it toppled right over bending 2 of the crossbars on the base. Rigged it up to stand up straight again and another little gust of wind caught and twisted the umbrella arm around and then it would no longer stay in position. Packed it up and put it in the garage. So frustrated with it. This year I put up a metal gazebo, problem solved. Might be able to salvage some use out of it and try to mount this umbrella, just using the pole from the broken base, to the front deck.

Great Value for the price
My daughter purchased this umbrella a month ago. She asked me to install the umbrella which required four heavy concrete patio slabs. This anchoring system presents a trip hazard. I suggested that we bolt the lower pole with a smaller integral base with four holes allowing us to directly fix the lower pole to the wood deck using four 3" lag bolts (I added a 8" x 8" x1" pce of plywood between the base and the deck). The kit does not include a umbrella weather cover. In a moderate wind, the umbrella starts to close by itself, but a bungee cord around the open/close .handle solved that issue. Based on price and the innovative possibility to attach the pole to the deck rather than buy and carry the four patio stones which are a trip hazard, it gets 5 stars.

Great Value for Money
Amazing value for money. I've seen many negative reviews, but for $100 I see these as almost disposable… undoubtably other umbrellas are much much better… but at 3-5x the cost, are they THAT much better? Probably not. These are replacing a much more expensive umbrella that lasted 4 years. Very happy with them so far!

Worst umbrella on the deck
We had this umbrella for just a year and it broke within the year. This umbrella moves at the slightest wind gust and if it goes over 20km/h you are going to see it swaying back and forth. 20km/hr is an average wind speed and for this umbrella to break so easily shows you that it didn't go through good testing. We had this for one summer and we had it down half of the time too. It was really frustrating having this umbrella move so much when we had people over.
Save your money and buy an umbrella that can take average city wind. We are from Toronto if it helps.
