Is this a hardwood product?
Most Wood Pellets are SPF Softwood (Spruce, Pine, Fir) as Softwood Pellets rate about 10% - 15% higher in BTU than Hardwood Pellets due to their resins which have a higher heat value. Softwood Pellets generally have a lower percentage of Ash.

are these pellets hardwood or soft wood
They are Hardwood. My daughter bought them to use as cat litter and they don't break down as well as the Softwood pellets. We prefer Softwood pellets for the cat litter because they are more absorbent. If you are using them to burn they would be fine.

Yep I use it for both my kitties and my parents use it as well.

Since thes pellets are advertised along with food safe pellets I assume these wood pellets are food grade as well???
I would say definitely NOT. These are labeled as heating pellets and have an organic vapour smell that almost smells like gasoline. I wouldn’t want to eat anything cooked with them!

Can they be used for ferret litter in their litter pan or as cat litter?
Yes, you can like I did for my buddy. If used as cat litter, the solid waste can be easily scooped and dumped in the toilet. The urine will turn the pellets into sawdust that would be preferable to dump into the compost bin as dry/brown material. Good smell control too. Tip: a raw meat-fed domestic cat will produce practically odorless and smaller solid waste (much like their wilder and bigger cousins), hence the easier pick-up-and-dump. He'll be healthier too and make your local vet clinic poor. :)
Anyway, much cheaper and more ecological than the usual commercial cat litter (sand, crystal, newspaper, etc). One bag will last around 2-3 months for one cat.

Garbage
I bought six bags of these pellets and got maybe 2 total bags of pellets the rest was sawdust. They did not burn well at all, and there was very little heat from them when they did burn. I would not recommend these to anyone. I would return them if I could but I cannot find my rescript.

Wood Burning Pellets
Spruce Pointe pellets sold at Rona/Lowes for the last number of years used to be good quality pellets. The quality of these pellets has gone down this fall. Used to be easy starting, now they are very hard to get started, and not the heat quality as a few years ago. Rona/Lowes has replaced the Spruce Pointe pellets with Woody's brand pellets, and Rona/Lowes is charging PST on the woody's pellets, which should be PST exempt, when used for heating a home.

Great for my purpose
I use them for litter for my ferrets. 7.00 for a bag of this is way better than 34.00 for a bag 1/8 of the size.

Garbage content!
I have 2 pellet stoves and both are made by 2 different manufacturers. at first I thought it was the chimney problem but over hours of trying to figure this out lead me to the conclusion the problem is the pellets. The pellets start off burning fine but as the fire continues, the crapo pellets that are mixed in usually made from garbage pressed board that are glued together and do not burn at the same rate. So they remain in the pit while others pile up and clog the fire. You end up with unburnt pellets. Then you have to turn off the stove, clean out the hearth, and start over again. Lowes pay attention to this comment because if you keep buying from garbage suppliers you will loose your customers

Just OK
Pellets at nearly $7.00 a bag is over the top. I would suggest that Rona source another product that is more affordable. Also I bought these in BC and heating pellets are PST exempt. This was pointed out to their staff who didn't have a clue. Drop the PST collection.

Great heat!!
The pellets I've burnt seem to burn amazing in my stove! Prices seem to be going up but the value here is worth the product.

I use this for kitty litter not gardening...
Good product its larger size tend to keep it more in the the litter box than some of the more expensive pine pellets and trust me as a multi cat household I have tried numerous products so I appreciate less cleanup outside the litter box. Also it's a good price ecpecially for a multcat home.
