High hopes
I get a prize for writing this review so take it for what it is. I researched a lot before purchasing this unit. I wanted 12K watts running and remote start. This is really the only contender. I just got the thing so I can't really do an honest review. It looks good. I had a hard time getting it started the first few times but the last couple times it started right up. I did find that the fuel shutoff is labeled backwards, which caused some of my startup problems. I put a full load on it and it handled it fine. Hopefully I can add or revise this review in the future, after I have had some experience with it.

HOME BLACKOUT USE
I purchased a Westinghouse W/Pro 12,000 10/16/2018 online and picked it up on the 10/23/2018. The first attempt @ starting the generator was 1/11/2019, almost 3 mo. later. It didn’t start initially; when it did start it ran for less than a minute and then died, I tried it several times. The closest authorized warranty service center is 100 miles from where we live, a two hour drive each way. I chose to take it to a local repair shop for service so that it would be running when I need it, paid for out of my own pocket.
I found out that the instructions on the generator gas shut off valve are misleading. The switch has to be turned sideways for the gas to flow, not up and down. Up and down shuts off the gas flow that’s why I couldn’t initially keep it running, fuel starvation. That’s the only issue I’ve had with this generator.
I bought this generator primarily for running our farm during black outs. The alternator jumper wire has to be removed to make it a floating neutral for powering the house service panel. Westinghouse has a service bulletin on how to do that. The generator comes with the neutral bonded to ground for standalone operations. Running the generator for a service panel transfer switch the generator has to be unbonded for it to power a home.
I’m a 78 year old DYI individual with a 27 acre farm in the boon docks. During inclement weather, wind storms & rain, we frequently lose our power from downed trees. We are the last property on this particular power grid. We’ve been without electricity for a week while the electric company restores everyone ahead of us. It is my intention to temporarily restore our power until the electric company gets their issues corrected. At our ages I was tired of indoor camping and wanted our creature comforts.
This W/Pro 12,000 based on specifications should cover those needs running our well pump, refrigerators & freezers, TV, lights and as needed base board radiators, water heater and anything else. I can control the circuits I need with the interlock device so I won’t overload the generator. I will use the primary circuits first than add others as needed. When I calculated the draw for our needs before I selected this unit it equaled 10,910W, surge 2,350W well within the W/Pro 12,000 specs. I’ll find out the next time we lose power for longer than a day or as we need it.
So far everything seems right; the unit came well packaged without any damage. Everything was included in the shipment to get the generator up and running, accept the gas. The unit is bigger and heavier than I imagined. The W/Pro 12,000 appears sturdily built; it was crated very well to protect the unit in shipment. I recommend installing the lift bracket first, and then connect the battery cables with the wheels off, then attach the wheels. If I had followed this procedure I wouldn’t have had to remove the wheel to get to the battery cables attached, later.

Solid build qualitity and performance
I purchased this generator to prepare for hurricane season in south Florida. The purchase and shipping was ideal. The shipping company even called to schedule delivery ahead of schedule.They brought it right into my garage. After putting the couple items together everything worked as advertised. Although the machine is pretty big my wife was able to move it around easliy due to the large wheels and perfectly placed handlebar.

More than I expected
The quality of of construction was better than I expected at this price point. Everything arrived well packaged. The included instructions were clear and easy to follow. The machine started on the first try and ran smootly. Remote start fob was already paired and worked well. I can't speak to how well it holds voltage under full load but I if first impressions are any indicator, I expect it to do well.

Portable generator
Purchased this beast and it is very heavy. Looking forward to this work horse for our food truck. I will say that after filling with fuel and adding oil and following the instructions, it did not want to crank. I had to charge the battery over and over so I'm hoping it's just a bad battery.
