Can you use this for stove electric hook up?
Not normal, as it is more strong, expensive, you are wasting money, unless you have a special stove such as induction or other that require a thicker cable.
Stove cable is normally NMD 90 8(3) or AC 90 8(3).

I need to install a 40 A panel about 15 meters from my main panel, what size wire should I use? I was told “stove cable”, whatever that is!
I am wondering if you could find a 40 Amp panel, unless you are referring to a pony panel that contain up to 4 circuits. In any circumstances you can not draw more than %80 of the total amp allowed by the load center(panel). This means you could use couple of 15 Amp circuit breakers. In answering your question, which is not properly asked, as you needed to indicated what you plan to feed by this proposed load center, is "Yes", NMD 90 8(3) or (Stove Cable), could handle up to maximum 40 Amps or the feeder. Make sure that you protect the cable by a double pole breaker not exceeding 40 Amps. Do not forget to limit the load to maximum 32 Amps total that could possibly be drawn from this sub-panel or load center.
