Never even put a battery on it
Bought this to use type 1 this cutting wheels for work, but it only comes with a type 27 (open-side) guard. Called DeWalt to get a type 1 guard. They gave me part #643772-00. Got this guard but it cannot be used on this tool because the guard uses a clamp-on fastener and the tool has a ratcheting release lever fastener. Called DeWalt again to see how to install this type 1 guard and was told to read the user's manual. Called a factory service center. The guy there researched the part and the tool and said there is no type 1 guard made for this tool. I returned the tool and now I am looking for a tool that will do what I need to do.

Spindle lock button froze after 2-3 hours use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Eats batteries, but good for the occasional grind-down or cut off. I used it to try to even up a small section of concrete and quickly found out that kind of thing is not a for a cordless device.
The TERRIBLE thing about this device is the spindle lock button that keeps the disc from turning so you can change discs, suddenly froze up. Can't push it in at all. Tried tapping it lightly, tried PB Blaster, nothing worked. The Dewalt site doesn't even show the part on their exploded diagram so you can't even buy it if it would come apart. I can't recommend the quality or the manufacturer support. Gonna switch to Milwaukee.

Works well but a real battery hog.
Used this to grind off some epoxy concrete crack sealant. I had two of the smaller DeWalt 20 volt batteries from previous DeWalt cordless purchases. This tool eats up the charges way faster than the others. I could not keep up with one charger and two batteries. Just yesterday, I received my order for a 2-pack of the larger DeWalt 20 volt batteries. That should solve my DIY needs. However, a contractor with serious, prolonged, grinding needs might want to look at the corded model.

For a Cordless Grinder, this really can't be Beat!
All these dudes here with complaints(?) about this Grinder are full of ..it ! I mean come on, hello? This is an Awesome CORDLESS Grinder! Ya got a Big Job in your Shop? So use one connected to 110!!! Like all DeWalt 20V tools, this one Rocks for outside Job Sites or when you don't have access to your Generator. In my case, I build Movie Sets, often out on remote Locations, so this is a 100% must-have Tool in my Kit. And NO... I am NOT paid for my Opinion. IF you are ever in a Sound Stage in LA and can watch the Art Dept at work, you'll see DeWalt tools all over the Set! No Brainer! 'Nuff said!

A nice addition to my 20V max tool collection
I already have a DeWalt 20V max drill and 1/4 inch driver set and recently got two additional 3.0Ah batteries so I decided to look for additional tools based on that battery system. I also have 2 DeWalt angle grinders, but they are corded and I wanted something I could grab and use quickly without the hassle of pulling power cords out.
This was the perfect answer to all those requirements.
Although it isn't as strong or as fast (rpm) as the corded grinders it works great for small jobs.

Great Grinder
Grinder performs great. To get the most out of it, if used in heavy duty grinding though, you need a 4 amp battery. Great tool. Performs well.

Dewalt 20v grinder
Wished I would have done more research on this product. I absolutely love dewalt, growing up as a child watching my father and grandfather work I knew dewalt was and still is the most professional, most reliable battery powered equipment. I own many dewalt 18 and now 20v Li power tools. Heck I even tossed the echo weed trimmer for the dewalt 20v brushless. So the problems I had with the 20v grinder is simple. It eats batteries. A 5aH battery will net you about 5 mins tops for grinding. A 1.5aH battery last about 2mins. I have 2 chargers in my shop so I didn’t see this as much of a problem till I realized the battery’s where too hot to charge after use. It takes about 15-20 mins for the batteries to cool down and take a charge. My second problem was the arbor shaft on mine was either out of balance or bent. Using a grinding wheel it would bounce a lot. And yes, it was installed correctly. I even changed out the grinding nuts with others to try and isolate the troubles. A cut off disc wouldn’t work either because of the vibration it would bounce around. I really wanted to like this as this is actually a 5” grinder. For bigger jobs I use a 7” 3m cubitron 2 disc and when they wear down I save them. Luck would have it the wheels would fit it. After day one with all the problems I took it back to Lowe’s and got the 4-1/2 dewalt brushless and man is it worth the extra $40. I can get nearly 20 minutes of continuous grinding. Dewalt makes great tools. But if unless you are a hobbiest I would go with the better XR brushless. Hope this helps.
