What is meant by "Gentle on concrete, Grass and pets when used as directed"......specifically, used as directed.
Hello Wahn, Yes it's Gentle on concrete and grass when used as directed. Alaskan® Premium Ice Melter is not recommended on the following surfaces:
Concrete that is less than 1 year old
Patterned, stamped and/or coloured concrete
Stone or brick masonry (including flagstone)
Precast concrete (steps or paving stones)
Stone or concrete surfaces that are chipped, cracked, spalled or have exposed aggregate
Wooden surfaces such as decks

Three month old concrete driveway. Will this be safe to use and not damage driveway?
no as per the instructions it is for concrete more than a year old

Yes. I’ve used it for years with no surface problems.

is Alaskan salt OK to use on concrete or bricks driveway
Absolutely not, even though the information on the packaging says it is safe for concrete. We used it on our concrete driveway and it totally damaged it, casing the concrete to flake off in big pieces. We used into as directed. I took photos and attempted to contact the number on the packaging but never got an answer or a reply. Never use this on a surface you do not want damaged.

is it safe to apply on wood decks?
I've used it on my wood deck many times and have had no problems. I do, however, sweep it off once I notice the ice has melted.

Is this product safe for pets?
I don't think so because Alaskan makes a pet friendly ice melt separately.

Works as advertised
Works well on driveways and walkways without causing any damage like other ice melting products (be sure to use as directed!) - melts ice quickly and effectively and is easy to see where you've applied it. Couldn't be happier with this product - a must-have for our Canadian winters!

Never Use
The product says safe to use on concrete one year old, our is three years old and was severely damaged from this product . I contacted the manufacturer, but never got a return call.

Quality product
Love the package. Zip lock is awesome. Keeps the product dry.
Salt draws moisture and lump up. Important to keep it dry.
Interesting mixture of shapes and colours. Looks high quality.
Difficult to melt thick ice.
Works well with small size spreader.

Alaskan Premium Ice Melter So So
I bought this product to help clear our front door area of ice and snow. This area often suffers buildups of snow and ice due to the wind. I have found the product to be good directly on ice but does not spread well as it is melting the ice, just stays put in large crystals. I have found it to be poor spread on snow, just goes to the bottom and stops working. It is sold as an ICE melter so I guess I shouldn't complain. I like the blue color helps to know where you have spread the product.

Like a hot knife through butter!
Well, not THAT good, but this stuff does very well on thick ice and snow. I don't think I would pay full price, but the half price special was well worth it!

Fast acting melter
I bought 2 bags in antisipation of snow and ice this winter. When the snow & ice finally arrived and I spread this on the snow and ice I was very surprised as to how fast it worked. The regular salt works but the Alaskan Ice Melter is so much faster much better, not to mention cleaner and safer. So happy with my decision to purchase the Alaskan product this winter.
