Does What It Claims
We have been using CLR for many years simply because it does what it claims to do on the outside of the container. We use it regularly in drains, toilet tanks, and every where else that needs to be kept clear of mineral build up, clean, and working. Lowe's price is good. Next time you are in store, read the label to see if the job you need it to do is listed. If it is, then buy it. AND if you follow the directions, it is safe to use....not some dangerous chemical.

good for slow flushing toilets
Had a slow flushing toilet . shut off the water, flush toilet to empty it out pour CLR into overflow pipe in back of toilet. make sure it comes out of holes on underside of bowl rim. scoop it out with your wife's measuring cup and pour in overflow a few times. take coat hanger and punch holes to break up lime scale. let sit over night. cut water back on and should flush like new !

Cleaned a nasty toilet like new. AMAZING!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used this stuff before with moderate to good results. But this time I had the ultimate challenge. We have hard water in the Midwest. That means a brownish calcium builds up in fixtures (toilets, sinks, tubs) unless they are regularly scrubbed -- and even then they can build a very hard, crusty deposit. A utility room toilet was neglected for years until the threat of company forced our action. I shut off the water valve, then used a screwdriver to chip away at the large chunks for an hour. I gave up and got the CLR. The standing bowl water was mostly scooped out, and I started brushing on a 50/50 solution, over and over. The continued for about 30 minutes until there was no trace of calcium left. THANKS CLR.

Slow flushing toilet
Used CLR to help with a slow flushing toilet. Cleaned out the little return holes along the rim with an alum wrench. Then drained toilet. After draining poured the CLR into the overflow tube in the tank and watched until it also filled main fill hole at bottom. Let it set for 15 minutes then turned water back on and flushed. Toilet is working properly. This is a 30 year old toilet and I love that it holds 3 gallons of water. I have a 40' run to the street so not comfortable with 1.1 gallons of water to do the job. Plus the toilet looks brand new.

Does NOT WORK on rust stains on vinyl siding.
If product worked as well as the label on the bottle claimed, I would have been pleased. It didn't touch the rust stains that I have on my vinyl siding. The time that I wasted with a nylon scrub brush worked better than this product did.

good purchase
Did work to remove some of the iron/rust staining on my tub from my hard water. It did not work to remove the deepest of stains, even using full strength and waiting the allotted time. It did remove the light rust stains. The smell was not obnoxious or toxic in any way. I will continue to use this after I use a different rust remover to get the deep stains off.

Be very careful where you use this
I've used Evaporust for years with never a single problem. Decided to give CLR a try on some car parts this past week. I thought of CLR because the parts are part of the cooling system of the car- specifically the thermostat housing and there are lots of mineral deposits. I put them in the CLR, checked them after a few minutes and saw the minerals were starting to dissolve. Left it overnight to finish and checked them first thing in the morning. Sadly the main body of the part was aluminum and buried in the fine print of the label after "marble and granite" in the "don't use with:" section is aluminum. The 45 year old car part was now porous like a sponge and I've had to go to England to find someone who was selling a comparable part.
So be very careful with this. It will take the chrome plating off of parts too.
