I am building a shed under my deck. I don’t have room to screw from the top. Can I screw the panels from underneath? Thanks!

Posée par: Oilers22
Try this. Screw panels ( Ones you select) on strapping and slide onto roof supports and screw from the underside to strapping. You are not clear whether you built frame under deck. You can add extra cross pieces between roof joists to screw through. This will work if you are not screwing to deck joists.

Is this the kind of roofing that the snow slides right off of wintertime?

Posée par: Kathleen Ann
Hi Kathleen Ann, Thank you for your interest in Ondura. As others have mentioned, when installed with the correct pitch of at least 3" per every 12" snow will slide it off the panels in winter time. For project specific information or more details please contact our customer service department at 1-540-898-7000 M-F 8a-5pm EST.

Are the panels flexible? I am thinking about using them to create a roof on a pergola that has a slightly curved design

Posée par: strummergirl
Hello Strummergirl, thank you for your interest in Ondura. Ondura panels are slightly flexible but they are an asphalt product and have a minimal bend radius. Ondura panels can be cut to fit curved roofs such as a Quonset roof application. For project specific information or more details please contact our customer service department at 1-540-898-7000 M-F 8a-5pm EST.

The panels measure 48 x 79. How much do you have to lap for adjacent panels? ( i.e. coverage lapped)

Posée par: Fishtalker
Hello Fishtalker, thank you for your interst in Ondura. For projects requiring multiple sheets, account for overlaps in calculating roof coverage (see diagram below). n Sidelap should be at least one corrugation (4 inches per corrugation). Headlap should be at least 7 inches. The effective sheet coverage is 44 inches wide by 72 inches long. For project specific information or more details please contact our customer service department at 1-540-898-7000 M-F 8a-5pm EST.

Is there any way to repair a hole in the product? The hole is about 1 in round

Posée par: shawno
Hello Shawno, thank you for your inquiry. Ondura can be easily repaired. Below is information to repair small and larger holes in Ondura panels. REPAIRING FASTENER-SIZED HOLES: Repair small fastener-sized holes by either filling with rubberized elastomeric flashing cement/ caulking; or coating the shank of a screw with rubberized elastomeric flashing cement/ caulking and screwing it into the hole. For larger holes created by fasteners, carefully pull fasteners from damaged corrugations, then cut a full-length sheet so its wide enough to cover the hole, plus two corrugations. Lap one corrugation on each side of the hole, and slip the upper end of this sheet under the lap of the row above. Fasten in place. REPAIRING LARGER HOLES: If an ONDURA sheet should be accidentally damaged or punctured, resulting in a moderatesized hole, the following method may be used to repair the damage. (If more than 1/2 the width, or more than 1/2 the length of the sheet is open, replace the whole sheet.) If only a smaller area is damaged, use the following steps to repair: 1. Determine the number of corrugations across which the damage occurred. 2. Cut a piece from a new sheet two corrugations wider than the damaged area. This piece should be left full length (6’ 7” long). 3. Remove the nails in the damaged corrugations of the sheet to be covered by this “patch”. 4. Install the “patch” under the end lap of the row of two sheets above and over the damaged area. 5. Replace the nails and be sure to nail the “patch” at ends, and where it crosses the purlins. For project specific information or more details please contact our customer service department at 1-540-898-7000 M-F 8a-5pm EST.

What is the weight for each panel and does it need extra material to insulate the roof?

Posée par: richard robinson
Hello Richard, thank you for your interest in Ondura panels. The 48"x79" Ondura panel weighs 18lbs per panel. Residential applications require the panels to be installed on a solid roof deck with an ice/water shield that is pursuant to your local building codes. Can I use this on an 8x10 pergola roof? The pergola base is metal what kind of screws would I use if this would work?  And how many sheets would I need

Posée par: Kourtney
Hi Kourtney, thank you for your inquiry. Ondura panels can be installed to any structure with the proper pitch and support, even over existing shingles. The required pitch for Ondura is 2" for every 12" unless you are in an area of snow and ice accumulation then the pitch must be at least 3" for every 12". Ondura can be installed directly to the supporting structure with spacing at a maximum of 24"OC. Ondura color match nails are available at your Lowe's store. You will need 4 panels to cover an 8x10 roof. For project specific information or more details please contact our customer service department at 1-540-898-7000 M-F 8a-5pm EST.

I have two questions. 1) Can this product be put on top of a roof that leaks (it's a mobile home ) 2) If the measurement of the mobile home is 16ft wide and 76ft long, how many sheets would I need to buy ? Thank you.

Posée par: Lala58
Yes you can put it over a roof that leaks. Do the math for how many sheets you need. They are 79" long, you said your home is 16ft wide, but how long is each side of roof? You may need more than one sheet for each section of each side. They are 48" wide, but you have to overlap so again, do the math and go to Lowes and ask someone!

can the large and small panels be installed over a cedar roof

Posée par: menc22
Hello, thank you for your inquiry. Ondura panels can be installed over existing asphalt shingles but we would not recommend to install directly over cedar shingles. Cedar shingles are heavy, adding Ondura and then any potential snow could prove to heavy for your roof. The fastener would need to be very long to get through the top corrugation of Ondura, the cedar shingle and into the substrate, certainly longer than the 4" nail or 3" screw we offer. Before installing Onduline products it is best to remove the cedar shingles. Please contact our customer service depart at 540-898-7000 M-F 8a-5p EST for project specific questions or more information.

I am thinking about using this product to cover a slanted 12'x16' roof over my deck. What kind of support does this product require? 24" centers on roof beams or can I go larger?

Posée par: Stittsville1
Hello, thank you for your inquiry. Ondura panels need at least 24" support for proper installation. Going with a larger gap in supports is not recommended and can cause the panels to sag. Going with a closer support is perfect. This closer support is recommended in areas of heavy snow and ice accumulation. If you have projet specific questions or if you have more questions regarding Ondura panels please contact our Customer Service Department. They can be reached at 1-800-777-7663, M-F 8a-5p EST.

Posée par: Tyler123456
Hi, thank you for your inquiry. These panels can be used to enclose your deck as long as they do not touch the ground. Placing a 1.5" piece of pressure treated plywood will provide the separation needed from the panels and the ground. For project specific questions please call 1-800-777-7663 M-F 8a-5p Est.

My roof is 8ft wide. What is the over lap on a 4ft sheet? Will two sheets cover 8ft with sufficient overlap?

Posée par: CLF0
Thank you for the inquiry. The sidelap on the Ondura panels is 1 corrugation (4") and the headlap is 7". Two sheets will not cover 8ft with the proper overlap. You can overlap the panels more to keep from cutting or the sheets can be cut very easily. To cut an ONDURA sheet parallel to the corrugations, use a utility knife with a sharp blade. Always cut sheets in the valley of a corrugation with the painted side up. To cut an ONDURA sheet perpendicular to the corrugations, use a circular saw with a carbide-tipped blade or a hand saw. Apply a lubricating oil on the saw blade to aide in a smoother cut. For best results, work with the painted side down and mark the cut line with a pencil on the unpainted side. For project specific questions please call 1-800-777-7663 M-F 8a-5p Est.

I have a very low pitch roof currently covered by tar paper (a utility building) with no leaks but needs to be shored up. I know it can be installed on top of the tar paper. Will this system hold up well?

Posée par: ATPATP
Google search "ondura roofing problems". First hit should be a "diy stackexchange". If not, scroll until you find it. I was really considering this product until I looked up reviews. Appears that as long as you don't need it to last more than five or six years, it's a great quick fix in the meantime. I would also suggest fastening it down with screws ......nails are never a good idea for something that will inevitably heat up and cool down - which means movement - and therby leaks. The screws intended for clear corrugated panels won't colour match, but do have the rubber washer.

Is this material suitable for use on a sun deck?

Posée par: dave571
Ondura is great for any roof with the proper pitch and support. The pitch needs to be 3" for every 12" at a minimum. The supports should be no more than every 24" on center if installing directly to open purlins. For project specific questions please call 1-800-777-7663 M-F 8a-5p Est.

How will this product stand up to a fairly seveir Hail storm ?

Posée par: What if
Ondura does not carry an impact rating, and will react to hail in much the same manner as any non-impact rated asphalt roofing. Where Ondura stands out is extremely high wind resistance, much higher than most all other asphalt roofing products. You are encouraged to read hail warranties of all roofing options, almost all consider hail an "act of god" and do not cover it, and most Impact Resistant materials only warranty up to 2" hail. Posée par: JuniorDyi
Fed up with one season fabric roof so I am building a 2x4 hip roof over our 10x12ft gazebo with plywood backing the Onduvilla 16x42 inch tiles. This is roughly the same dimensions that the fabric one took. Our gazebo has large 8x8ish legs which will support the structured roof. Should be no issue with a snow load. The Onduvilla tiles will be easier to work with too. Even as I type this I doubt that I will be using the plywood but will use 2x4s for nailing strips between the roof joists.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Great Product I used this product on a 12’ X 24’ storage shed over 10 years ago. It has survived two hurricanes and several hail storms and has not leak one bit. The only force that it has not been able to withstand was a pine tree that fell on the very corner edge and that was quick and easy to repair. I used a piece of scrap that I had left over my initial installation and it was then that I noticed that fading was practical non existent. The shed is not what one would consider storm proof, it has 2X4 rafters 24” apart and I used 1x4 slats 24” apart. This stuff is like a Timex watch, takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. Great Product. I am getting ready to use it again.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Good alternative to tin I needed enough roofing to cover an 8x8 tool shed that I had built and was looking for an alternative to tin. I was afraid of the sharp edges on tin given that my shed was shorter than the typical shed. This product was very easy to cut, carry and to install. Plus, it's a very nice looking product. Since I was covering such a small area, the price difference in this product and tin did not break the bank. I used the nails recommended by Lowes and was very pleased with them as well. The asphalt and cellulose fiber were easy to nail into and so far it's held tight through a couple good rainstorms. Definitely a recommend.

Rated 5 de 5 de par So far it's great I'm surprised by some negative comments. I've used this on a bandstand in my yard and a shed for my landscaping gear. The bandstand has been up for 3 years and is good as new. It's nailed to purlins spaced 24" and there's no sagging. Easy and quick to install. I had no trouble with the nails and yes, the sheets do flex a bit so you may want to mark grid lines to keep it all square but as the instructions point out this is an advantage if your roof isn't square. Flex to fit. Both roofs I have are open underneath so I go out in the rain to look for leaks and I've never seen a single one even though the shed roof is way below the recommended pitch(less than 1/12). Thinking of using it on my mobile home roof which is also low pitch.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Fast and easy Easy product to use, works well but read the installation instructions first, I think the bad review here is because it was installed flat. It is not intended for flat or gently sloped roofs, and solid sheathing and underlayment is recommended for houses. I would hestitate to use it in any application without sheathing as it is very flexible. I used it first on a sloped veranda roof and loved it; I am now roofing a cabin with it. Fairly light and easy to use, even for a one - person operation. The price is a bit more than asphalt shingles but it is much faster.

Rated 3 de 5 de par Hard to Work With I bought this product because I was adding an extension to my shed to house my tractor and needed a simple roof to install over my joist beams. I installed it on an 85 degree day and the sheets were almost too flexible to load onto the roof (bent easily due to being more pliable). To top it off, my joists were not exactly on center, and the nailing was very difficult. You can't walk on it, so each sheet has to be nailed from the center out. the nailing is critical, because just a little off center, and the nail hole is too large and tears the sheet. I spent a lot of time caulking nail holes I was going to buy a tin roof, but thought this would be easier. I still like the concept, and we will see how it lasts.

Rated 5 de 5 de par Survived Ivan. We live less than a mile from the Gulf of Mexico. Ivan wiped out a neighboorhood 1/2 mile from our home. Ivan put two large trees onto our home and limbs punched several holes through the ondura and the shingle and plywood underlayment of our old roof. I was able to remove the trees and patch the roof with a new sheet of ondura in a few hours making our home water tight. Almost every shingle roof house in our neighborhood had their roofs blown away. Our Ondura held on tight. Great Stuff.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Not durable I bought this product and put it on my new shed. I bought the "special" nails and 7 sheets. I did this based on the reviews. I had already cut the material to the right size when I realized that it is poor roofing material. The material is not durable, the first "special nail went right through. If you plan to purchase, use the special metal screws and be VERY careful when installing. I went on being very carefull I only ended up with 8 or 9 more holes in the new shed roof. Most of the holes are at the peak.... I covered with a ridge. For the extra 10 bucks, I would use metal next time. I exptect it to last for a very short period.... Maybe one winter if the wind does not blow.

Rated 1 de 5 de par Disappointed after Hail Storm We were so excited about the Ondura roofing products. It all sounded so great and we really thought it was a fantastic product. Warranty clearly indicates that no damage is covered if caused by bad weather. This product stands up great to heavy wind and rain, but one bad hail storm and it was completely full of holes. We counted 150 through-and-through holes in a 10 x 12 foot area. Who would have thought it would allow that level of damage from hail. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT if you live in an area that might get heavy hail (which is everywhere). Not only is our roof a mess, our ceiling now needs replacing too. Shoot, our 20 year shingles held up just fine under the same conditions. You get what you pay for...
