In a new build project, is there any additional framing requirements to accommodate this niche? I am getting ready to install the drywall. Thanks.
If your framing is standard 16" OC and 3.5" deep than NO.
However with the larger niches if you want to use them in the horizontal way, example the 12x20 niche but have the 20" going horizontal from left to right ... then yes your framing would need to be modified to accommodate the new custom size.

This products is specified at 12 X 12 inches. Can someone confirm if this is an "inside" measurement? Thanks.
Yes .. The inside dimensions are exactly 12"x12"x3.5" however for installation reasons the outside lip/edge goes 2" further on each edge making it 16"x16" to center with your wood framing.

Can the niche be used on an outside wall ? Living in the cold for 6 months. If so would you just not insulate that part of the outside wall ?
Typically the Insulation needs to be modified/removed so NO ... but if the insulation does not get modified then YES.
In most cases you can't so just install their new shower shelves.

Schluter Shower Niche
The Schluter Shower Niche is a fabulous prodcut that provides an excellent waterproof surface to use as a location in a tiled shower to store bath products. The waterproof barrier (Kerdi Fabric) is flocked to accept any non-modified thinset for tiling the exposed surfaces. Schluter is the world's largest supplier of materials used for finishing tile installation projects. They provide over 1600 different edge profiles for tile project as well as waterproof and isolation barriers for tile installation. This prodcut comes in multiple sizes and configurations and is light-weight and yet very durable. Select your size, install and tile over for a lasting, waterproof shower niche!

Definitely worth it!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my first time installing a niche, and it was a breeze. As lightweight as the material is, it was not fragile as I had feared. Easily installed into the wall cavity with a an extra stud installed and handful of drywall screws. Once in place, it was as rigid as the surrounding cement board. It held the thinset just fine as I adhered my tiles. The finished installation is perfectly flush and looks great!

Schluter products are great!
This is a great product! So much easier to use than cement backer board. I wish I had this product for my last bathroom remodel.

Shower water proof insert
