Yes, It comes configured to vent vertically.
The instructions provide detail for vent through rear of unit.
Not sure there is option for vent back into room.

Excellent!
I am so happy that the interior light burned out on our old counter top high end microwave oven. Because of that little light, my husband and I decided to purchase the LG LMV2053st over the range microwave oven. It's very very impressive! No cold spots in the food! A pleasure to use and use it we do - several times a day - from reheating tea to cooking our porridge in the morning to a dinner casserole and snacks in the evening. No complaints whatsoever. It matches to a "T" to our other kitchen appliances.
Our impression and review .... a HIGH FIVE!

Beautiful, easy to use, and super easy to clean.
We purchased this model along with a fridge, range, and dish washer. This Microwave is proving to be all that we had hoped for and more. It's super easy to keep clean. The touch pad control is awesome. Whether you are warming, or cooking, there are never any cold spots in the food. The Defrosting settings are the best of any Microwave I've ever used. The placement of a "Quick Guide" just inside the door opening is fantastic. It's also very quiet. Everyone in the household says, "No Complaints"!

Horrible Instructions, Template, Customer Service
Spent 4 hours installing...templates not accurate, installation instructions horrible with several spelling mistakes and customer service clueless and not helpful. Once installed, power is less than our old 700 watt. I have newer LG products including oven, fridge, dishwasher, washer and dryer...no problems. LG should not be in the Microwave business according to most reviews I have read. I only purchased the Microwave to be consistent with the other Appliances. Big disappointment.

Worst range hood ever
We bought that rangehood microwave i thought that i had installed wrongly turns out no. It’s installed properly and 400cfm at the exhaust thats correct but it cant suck the smoke from the cooking. Dont recommend this item

Template is Wrong!!!!!
I installed this thing today, so far so good haven't used it yet. The template is wrong!!! But It is a mirrored image. Measure twice cut once. No maybe measure 6 times and cut once. It's easy enough if you invert the template. Check and double check and triple check. I'm just some angry dude on the internet!!! Listen but don't believe without science. Flip the template and measure then measure again, why not one more time?

Wider than 30" - won't work with 15" deep cabinets
I bought this microwave and took it back to the store. The door hinge is such that it will not fully open with 15 inch deep cabinets. Furthermore if you have a corner unit next to the door hinge, even pushing the microwave 2 inches from the back wall will not help as the two doors will interfere. In essence I ruined an upper cabinet by installing this unit which does not make me happy.

Poor Quality
Microwave arrived today to our home, took it out of the box and the door would not open or close, the control panel was broken and was lifting off of the unit completely. Called the store to return it and a new microwave has to be ordered as it is a special order which will take a few more days to arrive, so annoying. Piece of Junk.

Horrible build quality
Microwave has died 2 times within the first 18 months. The 2nd time LG is unable to fix it (failed circuit board and replacement part is unavailable) so I had to purchase a new unit. Would not recommend this OTR microwave.
