I love this washer
When searching for a washer I was looking for one with a good size capacity and found this one and it was on sale, but I was afraid of it as well after reading the reviews online. So here is what I have to say about this washer, I LOVE IT :-) and Yes you MUST READ the MANUAL BEFORE start your first load. Once you have read the manual then you will totally understand how this machine works and love it as I do. Yes it makes a different noise than my last washer but that's OK and yes the water is added different and at different times but that too is OK, the end result is VERY CLEAN CLOTHES and that is what a washer is suppose to do.

Large capacity, good value
We've had this washing machine for a couple of weeks now. It replaced a much older Whirlpool model that behaved very differently. This is a high-efficiency washer which automatically senses the size of the load & fills the tub accordingly. There is no way to manually set the load size (small, medium, large) like our old washer, other than a maximum fill setting. When sensing, washing, & rinsing the washing machine pulses & the sound, while not overly loud, is somewhat annoying. During the rinse & spin dry cycles the lid locks automatically & can't be opened. On the positive side, this is a large capacity washer & does a good job of cleaning clothes, sheets, etc.

Please Read This Before You Buy
We purchased the MVWC565FW1 Top Loader HE Washing Machine in September 2017. When I first began using, I used the AutoSensing option. For about 2 weeks, I continued using thinking that it was my imagination but IT DID NOT CLEAN MY CLOTHES!!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I have now switched to Deep Water Wash and I realize NORMAL wash cycle cannot be used with Deep Water Wash. Btw, I have read the manual. It lives by my chair!!! I literally have to turn cycle knob from cycle to cycle for minutes until it will finally realize that I want Deep Water Wash. It is the most FRUSTRATING washing machine I have ever used in my life. Never will I buy another Maytag!!!

Ditch Your Moldy Front Loader and Buy Me!
We just dumped a 5 year old $1500 Samsung front loader that always smelled like mildew and was coming up on a $900 repair to fix broken drum spider.....we use to have a Whirlpool top loader that lasted 9 years no issues. After 2 weeks in use my wife loves being back in a top loader! Sure the motor makes some noise while it agitates....to us it is the sweet sound of victory! Clothes come out cleaner...that front loader just never used enough water...after more research we found that front loaders have many more problems than good top loaders....they are a fashion, this machine is a tool. A tool for gettin' laundry done.

Very Large Load
Pros: Super large load capacity ... I can do king size bedspreads with no problem at all. I really like this washer because it has a tall agitator which makes me feel like the clothes get washed better than those no agitator washers (which I used in a rental condo at the beach for a week). You can either fill up the whole tank with water (separate setting) or let it sense how much you need. I really like that feature too. I feel the clothes get very clean.
Cons: Once you get accustomed to the sensing noises (which are a strange sound), the actual washing machine noises are pretty loud. This is not a washer to be next to a bedroom if you are going to do wash while trying to sleep.

Nice washer
I purchased this washer a few weeks ago. After the initial "loud/different" sounds, it has now become normal. The sounds are different because it's 20 years later! things change! The washer is doing a great job doing what it does. I would recommend! I love that I can throw in blankets without an issue! The tub is large. I would never purchase a washer without a center agitator. I have friends who have and all have regretted it. Having to make a "hole" in the center of dirty laundry is not my idea of convenient--which is required with machines without agitators. Very happy with my new washer. :)

Great performance so far
I bought this model on sale at Lowe's about a month ago and have run many loads through it. So far, so good. I have it set at cool water, normal, one rinse unless I have bulky items and then I'll opt for the higher water level and two rinses. My energy bill has gone down and I have to attribute it to this washer over my 15-year-old Maytag. It wrings the clothes very well, and I end up running the dryer for shorter periods of time. The large 4.2-cubic-foot capacity is nice to have as I can fit comforters and blankets in it with no problem. I hope this washer lasts another 15 years like my old one.

Bad design
I have had a number of Maytag washers over the years and have been happy with them. Thus, I bought this washer about a year ago. The design is absurd! In order to soak clothes, you must stand over the washer until it fills. If you leave the lid up it just empties right away. This is ridiculous! This is a washing machine---soaking clothes is a NORMAL activity. Unless they change this back to a design that makes sense, this will be the last Maytag I purchase.
Also, totally agree with the other comments about not being able to set the fill level. Thus I use the "deep wash" for all of my laundry--- again ridiculous!
