Newly purchased ice maker
I purchased this Kitchenaid ice maker last week. It replaces another Kitchenaid ice maker that lasted only 7 years. In those seven years, it required 5 major repairs--always involving the cutting grid.
So, you might ask, why buy another Kitchenaid Ice maker? Great question! Honestly, we had problems in another home with a Scotsman ice maker. So I figured they all suck. But the Kitchenaid one was about $1000 less that competitive brands.
I would have given the first Kitchenaid ice maker zero stars. The new one hasn't broken down yet, but it's only been in our house for a week. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Have yourself a "Cube-a-lanch"
We had an older unit under the bar (Uline), and it was ok, but very noisy and temper-mental, making ice chips sometimes instead of cubes.
This unit is just great. It has a wonderful user friendly setup with a light and scoop holder.
It has a built-in water filter cartridge that changes out in seconds!....The ice is glass clear and taste free, and is perfectly sized for cocktails. It is much quieter and does not annoy, because all the cubes do not fall at once. We are entering our second month with it , and can recommend it to all. Worked for 3 Hours before...
The day after my ice maker was installed and tested, we turned in on. It made ice nicely for about 3 hours and then a compression joint failed in the unit and we ended up with water spraying all over our living room bar area. It soaked our carpets and made a huge mess. The part was replace last week and has been working fine since then. This was installed in a vacation home and I'm afraid to leave it on when we leave. Good Performance in the first month
I have owned this appliance only one month. It is currently operating very well and makes plenty of ice in the cube size I prefer. There are a number of items that could be improved. First it is very noisy and has a high pitched hum which is annoying to me. Wish the thing could drop the ice more quietly too. A recessed handle would be a great improvement. When the door is open I can't open my refrigerator. No problem most of the time but annoying when I have extra hands in the kitchen. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Perfect addition to the Butler's Pantry
We bought this along with a dual zone wine fridge for our new Butler's Pantry and together they are a great combination. It would have been nice if KitchenAid included the "optional" water filter as they are not easily found and a special order took two weeks. A metal ice scoop instead of plastic would also have been a plus at this level. Also, apparently a lot of plumbers are not familiar with these machines so make sure they know to hook up a gravity drain as well as the water line. Overall good, but makes some noises
I have 2 of these, in two different homes, one of them has already failed and now repairs and parts is around 1K USD, it probably has less than 2 years.
The second unit (7 mo, old) started making some noises. In general they look good but they are not really reliable. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I like it -- but
This icemaker replaced our 16-year-old kitchenaid. I'm ok with the new one except for the handle which sticks out quite a ways from the door. I preferred the low profile curved handle of the older models. I also am not sure I like having the control buttons covered by a panel you have to open. I have to turn this one off periodically due to it making a high-pitched whine every so often (will place service call). So, yes I would recommend kitchenaid ice maker as long as you don't mind the above mentioned issues because as long as you have a service agreement it will last a long time -- or at least the last one did. I have another 10-year-old kitchenaid ice maker and it's still going strong, but again be sure to get the service agreements. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
