Grossly underpowered piece of junk
This is my third Weller soldering iron and I bought it because both of the other ones I own are under-powered for anything but soldering components to circuit boards. This one appears to be a heavy duty design for heavy soldering but really is just a wimpy soldering iron with a large metal tip. It takes forever to heat up and it never stays hot enough when making contact with the work to consistently melt the solder and keep the contact areas hot enough to make a good connection. For example soldering two 14 gauge wires together was impossibly difficult even after pre-heating the iron for 20 minutes. Trying to solder 24 gauge galvanized sheet metal was completely beyond its capability with heat dissipating faster than this stinker of a tool can make it.
