great corded trimmer choice!
Wanted a corded trimmer since most battery models don't carry enough charge to complete my medium-sized lot. After trying other corded models costing over twice as much, this inexpensive old-school trimmer outperforms them! No more melting line and other problems due to the autofeed vs rotation speed, this unit works fine with its bump-and-go line feed. I was a little hesitant to purchase a model with less than a 4-amp motor but it's doing fine for my middle-of-the-road trimming needs.... Just waiting to see how many seasons i get out of it. So far though, I'm very pleased with my B&D! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Good value trimmer for light to medium use
Pros : Light weight and easy to use.
Edge gaurd is a plus, helps reduce frequent cord breaks
Price is definitely a plus point for the features this little trimmer gives.
Cons: Not suitable for heavy usage, being rated with such a low amp/power
Little flimsy and plastic feel
You feel a lot of vibration on your hand, there could have been some soft rubber grips and handles.
The electric power switch is very delicate and not always reliable.
Comparing the cons, I would still recommend this product for anyone who is looking for a budget trimmer with a light usage with small to medium back/front yard.

Better than expected
I was in a pinch to clean up my yard quickly and didn't have the money for a lawn mower. We have a small lawn so I figured this would be fine and I'm still using it to cut my lawn a month later. Was hesitant because of some negative reviews I read but figured for the price it wouldn't kill me if it worked once and broke after that. It's been a little over a month and it's still working great. No need to buy extra string for it. It comes with a bunch already in it. You do need to buy an extension cord though. It's made of cheap plastic but as long as you're not banging it around, I'm sure it'll last a while.

Save your money
I've owned B&D tools for years and have always found them among the best tools made. I purchased this edger less that a month ago to replace another B&D edger that had an auto advance string feeder. I hated it because the string would never advance and I had to keep taking it apart to lengthen the string. That why I purchased this model because it offered the old style "bump" method to advance the string. The problem is now that the string keeps breaking. In the past two weeks I've used up all of the string that came with it and have had to reload it with new string. PLEASE, don't waste your money of this product, it's not worth it.

Don"t Waste Your $$$
Bought late this afternoon...returning tomorrow morning. This trimmer did not advance properly as described in the instruction manual. I had to keep removing the cover to manually advance the line until the line eventually broke inside the casing. In less than 150 feet, I did this at least 11 times and could not even complete half my yard.
I wanted a simple, easy to use, manual feed trimmer, and the box describes this trimmer as such. However, it is anything but. As an older woman who has used many trimmers (in over 40 years of gardening and yard work) including Black and Decker, this trimmer is the worst trimmer I have ever used. Before using I did read the manual.

Great for the price
Handle is not adjustable, so my boyfriend at 6'3" says his back gets sore. At 5'6" it's fine for me.
Need an extension cord, but so does my lawnmower. This is not a problem for me as my yard is not large and I'd rather not have to replace batteries or purchase gas.
It does the job quite well. I love the fact that it can be used as an edger as well as a trimmer.
It's not the most high-tech or powerful gadget on the market, and it does have a lot of plastic parts, but it's perfect for a small to medium yard and the price is right. I've had it a year now and all I've had to do is replace the string.

you get what you paid for
i bought this because it was cheap...on sale for $24.95 plus tax. you cant beat that! i dont have a big area or need it for a big job. i only use the trimmer along the fence and few other place. i dont use it as a edger tho, i have another tool for that. you pull it out of the box and theres two pieces you have to put together and plug it in, waalaa!!! you can tell its not powerful but what do you expect for $25!!?? only one string instead of two. you burn thru the string very fast...but like i said, you get what you paid for it. dont expect gas power trimmer from electric, thats for sure.

I"ve had cheaper work better
I'd had a small, cheaper B/D trimmer for years that I finally wore out. So I bought this model , next size up,a couple of years ago and it lasted one season. I figured it was just that particular trimmer and bought the same model this year. RIght out of the box, before I'd trimmed 50 ft, the line had broke 3 times and receeded back up into the spool. I had to take the spool completely off and refeed the line, only to have it repeat. This is two for two that are not durable. I was told you get what you pay for, but I've had smaller, cheaper models that work longer and better.
