Better than expected
After reading through a ton of reviews, I was somewhat skeptical at how well this trimmer would actually perform. So, out of the box, I oiled the blades (an absolute must), attached the trimmer , then began quick work of trimming every shrub, bush, and hedge on my property. Much to my delight, the blades did not get tripped up and I literally had no issues. I Even thought to myself while trimming one set of bushes that this hedge trimmer cuts like it is cutting through butter. I Am looking forward to the next time I get to use the thing. Kind of sad that I Do not have anything to cut at this time!

Nice attachment but lacking long enough shaft
I bought this to trim some low lying brush, I wasn't impressed on the brush cutter attachment and since this cut a much wider path I figured it would be much quicker but in order to cut at ground level you need to be bent over too far. I'm thinking about buying the branch cutter to use the extension from it so I don't have to bend so far but I really feel they should sell the extension separately so you don't have to spend $100 on an attachment you don't really need. Other then bending over it worked great trimming everything low enough I could run the mover over it in mulch mode to chop it up and I didn't even have to clean up the clippings

Good, with fixes...
I use this with a Husqvarna 128LD. Do yourself a favor when you buy this attachment: take apart the gearbox and spread everything liberally with grease. The gearbox does not come with enough grease... the same can be said for the "lower" gearbox too... the one which contains the cams which operate the cutting faces themselves.
After greasing everything up, the trimmer attachment is MUCH quieter, and operates much better. Don't forget to lube up the cutting faces with a light oil too. I use WD40.
Also, if you use a Husqvarana like I do, loosen the attachment tube, turn it 90 degrees, and reattach. This makes this attachment much easier to use, and prevents the trimmer head from operating at a weird angle when trimming horizontal surfaces.

Second one
This is the second one I have owned, first one lasted for about 2 years, this one less than a year. I may have used it a maximum of 5 times. The problem is that the gears that run the blades are not well made. When the first failed, the gear blew apart, and broke the cheap pot metal housing. I figured that I did not grease the gears enough. On this one I have greased it twice, this time the lower cog that runs the bottom blade failed, Now I have lost the receipt and am stuck with another pile of junk. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Fails
who would design a hedge trimmer to break if it hits a larger branch. Trimmer plus would. Kudos to lowes for allowing me to return these things. I tried 3 and they all broke within 15 minutes of use. If you hit anything over 1/4 inch the trimmer will destroy itself. If you are only trimming new growth it works well. Don't even bother trying to call for tech support. You will sit on hold for 10 minutes then be hung up on.
I read all the good reviews on the net and decided I must just have gotten a lemon(s) but after 3 failures I give up and am publishing this review

Broken in one use
First time I used it, it broke. I purchased the replacement warranty, so it is going back. I did not take it apart but I suspect it is the plastic gears/bushing. I will keep taking it back for the next year, maybe someone at MTD will get a clue and design a better product.

Works Great Mounted on Battery Powered Trimmer
Recently bought a Kobalt 80 Volt Battery Powered Trimmer. Decided to add accessories, starting with the hedge trimmer. Bought it, attached it and tried it out. Seemed to work fine. Then I read rest of instructions that stated "Not recommended for electric trimmers. Uh oh! Went back to Lowe's where I was told I had a battery powered trimmer not an electric trimmer. Their concern was cutting the cord of an electric trimmer, which you can't do with battery power. That made sense considering how many cords I cut using my regular hedge trimmer. Went back home and seriously trimmed 3 large landscape bushes where I could only work from 2 sides at most. It worked great. Unit has great reach and very good power. Job didn't take much time at all. Only con is the unit is somewhat heavy, put power and reach come at a price.

No problems with this attachment
Bought this attachment 2 days ago along with a Poulan pole saw. I've read other negative reviews but so far everything works just as advertised. Spent 3 hours of almost constant use cleaning out my wife's Lantana beds and never a hiccup. See photos. I did spend quite a bit time reading the manual and making sure everything was set up in accordance. I can see how this is going to save a lot of frustration trimming up my 5 fo0ot hedge.
Definitely recommend.
