Choose a Style, Theme, or Colour Palette

Choosing a theme for Christmas home decor is a crucial step in creating a festive and cohesive look for your home. It sets the tone and helps tie all the elements together. Here are the 3 themes we chose this year:

  • Classic Chic: The immaculate monochromatic palette of this collection is complemented by subtle metallic, rose-red, and sage accents. At the heart of this fairy-tale decor blending antique nostalgia and modernism, Christmas is resolutely glamorous.
  • Nordic Trail: Fans of Scandinavian style will be thrilled by this minimalist collection with its clean lines. Stylized, graphic ornaments evoke the alpine world and Nordic landscapes. A few contrasts punctuate this stylized decor, which is sure to delight your guests.
  • Festive Traditions: This collection plunges us into the sweet nostalgia of Christmases past, revisiting classics in the purest tradition. Midnight-blue accents mingle with the unmistakable palette of red, green, and gold, adding a modern touch to this classic decor with rustic accents.

Choose the Right Christmas Tree for your Decor

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree is easy! Use our Christmas Tree Buying Guide to choose the perfect artificial or natural evergreen. There are lots of pros and cons to each: a fresh tree can give your home a festive look (and smell!), but an artificial pre-lit tree can save a lot of time.

Decorate the Tree

Making your tree picture-perfect is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Here’s how to do it:

  • Lights: If you don’t have a pre-lit tree, simply add some sparkle with string lights!
  • Garlands: Wrap the garland or ribbon around the tree in the same angle as your lights.
  • Tree Topper: Add the topper before the ornaments to avoid breakage!
  • Ornaments: Start with your favourites, then fill the rest. We recommend working from top to bottom.
  • Finishing Touches: Add a tree skirt to the bottom of the tree to give it a more polished look.

Now all that’s left are the presents!

Spread the Holiday Cheer Throughout Your Home

Before you haul out the holly and put up the Christmas tree, check out these easy, colourful ways to add a little—or a lot—of Christmas to your home’s most visible rooms, such as your entryway, kitchen, dining room, and more.

  • Entryway: Fill guests with Holiday spirit as soon as they walk up to your door. It’s easy when you do things like drape a dazzling pre-lit artificial garland on the entry stairs or add the warm, safe glow of LED candles.
  • Kitchen: A simple way to really make your kitchen stand out is to use glass kitchen cabinets or opens shelves to display Christmas decorations.
  • Dining Room: Add some warm touches to your table with decorative items, Holiday napkins, white spray-painted pinecones, festive candle holders—all that paired with a co-ordinating centrepiece.
  • Living Room or Family Room: In your main living area, simply find the focal point and decorate around it. Frame the hearth with a pre-lit artificial Christmas tree, then hang a wreath above the mantel.

Poinsettias are irritating to the mouth and stomach of both cats and dogs, sometimes causing vomiting. Make sure to place them out of your pet’s reach!

How to Care for a Christmas Cactus: Bloom Cycle & Tips

The Christmas cactus needs to follow a pretty strict regimen in the fall to bloom in time for Christmas:

  • In late September or early October, place the plant in a dark room or keep it covered under a box or bag for at least 12 hours a day.
  • Cease the light/dark schedule can cease when the tiny buds appear (after 3-4 weeks).
  • As the buds get bigger, move the plant to its "display area," avoiding extreme temperature or lighting changes.
  • Continue to water and feed while budding and blooming.
