Factors to Consider When Choosing a Bathroom Vanity

To find the perfect vanity for your bathroom, consider the following factors when making your selection:

  • Size and available space
  • Style and design
  • Material and durability
  • Storage options
  • Countertop and sink options

Select the Right Type of Bathroom Vanity

One decision to make early in the bathroom remodel process is the installation type. You’ll need to decide whether you’re looking for a freestanding, wall-mounted, or corner-mounted vanity.

Freestanding vanities are the most common type of vanity design. They simply sit directly on the floor of your bathroom, which makes them easy to install.

Wall-mounted bathroom vanities are attached to the wall and usually have a space between the bottom of the unit and the floor. This is a great place for additional storage of bathroom linens.

Corner-mounted vanities are perfect for a bathroom with limited space. Tucked away in the corner, they use up less space than the average vanity.

Pro Tip

No room for a bathroom vanity? No problem! You can opt for a pedestal sink or a simple wall-mounted bathroom sink.

Optimize Storage Thanks to a New Vanity

When selecting the right vanity for your bathroom, consider what type of storage it offers. Different units may feature cabinets, drawers, or a combination of the two. To help you decide, consider the location of the vanity (whether it’s for a master bathroom, kids’ room, or guest room) as well as what you need to store.

The cabinet material can also have an impact on how your vanity storage looks and functions. Among the most popular material options are solid wood, engineered wood, and plywood with an MDF veneer.

Pro Tip

Hang hooks from the inside of the vanity cabinets for even more storage!

Discover the Various Bathroom Vanity Styles Available

If you’re dreaming of an updated style, then a modern vanity is the way to go. Look for dark colours and shiny finishes for a modern and chic look.

Toeing the line between modern and traditional, transitional vanities balance aesthetics and functionality. Go with trendy designs with lots of storage.

Traditional vanities focus on the practical. While they may be a little bigger than their modern counterpart, they offer ample storage for you and your family.

Rustic or farmhouse vanities emphasize a warm, cozy, and natural feel reflecting a countryside charm. They often feature weathered finishes and antique-style accents.

Coastal vanities embody a breezy, tranquil vibe reminiscent of the sea. Opt for light, airy colours to help create a serene and refreshing atmosphere.

Pick the Perfect Bathroom Sink

Your bathroom sink will also have an impact on what type of vanity you can buy. Take into consideration the type and the number of sinks you would like in your bathroom.

  • Integral: The sink is set into the countertop.
  • Undermount: This sink lays underneath the counter instead of on top of it.
  • Drop-In: These units ‘drop-in’ to the vanity and have a lip that rests on the countertop.
  • Vessel: The entire sink sits on the surface of the countertop.

Depending on your needs (and wants), vanities come with two options — single sink or double sink. Single sinks are standard for powder rooms, while double sinks are great in high-traffic bathrooms.

Add the Finishing Touch with a Bathroom Faucet

When it comes to bathroom faucets, simply go for a design you like that fits on your vanity. However, for a seamless look, we recommend coordinating all your finishes in the room or opting for a 2 colours finish combination.

Wide-set (also known as widespread) faucets have a spout with separate hot and cold-water handles. They are available from 6” to 16” drillings for three-hole pre-drilled installation basins.

Centre-set faucets combine a spout and valves on a single base unit. They may have a single-handle mixing lever or 2 handles mounted onto a 6” plate. They’re made for 4” pre-drilled with 3-hole installation basins.

Single-hole faucets are made for one pre-drilled hole in your vanity countertop. They can have a single handle or 2 handles.

Vessel faucets are made taller than the average faucet so they can reach out and over a vessel sink. They are available in single-hole, centre-set, and wide-set installation types.

Pro Tip

If your vanity has already been predrilled for extra holes, you can use an optional deck plate to cover them up.
