Works Like It Should
Had to construct a cabinet face to add a door to an existing cabinet. Because of the cabinet configuration I had to use 1/2" material instead of the typical 3/4" used for cabinet faces. Since the material was only 1/2" I decided to use dowels at the joints. There are other methods available and more often used so I was not sure I would be able to find 1/4" dowels. I originally grabbed a long 1/4" dowel thinking I would have to cut my own. I came across an employee at Lowe's and quickly found out that they did carry the dowels I needed. They were located right under the rack where I had grabbed the longer dowel from. These dowels are much better than me cutting my own because they have the groves cut in the side to allow the proper flow of glue to make a secure joint, unlike a dowel with no groves that forces most of the glue out of the hole. The dowels worked just like they should and the project was completed without any problems.

1/4" Poplar Dowel Pin
They were a little short for the project I needed them for, but I was able to make them work. It would be nice if they offered the same diameter dowel pins in a length size twice as long as what was offered. They did offer a longer dowel pin but it was a much larger diameter.

Purchased for refurbishing wood chairs in need of some TLC. Maybe I just got a bad batch of 1/4". I'm happy with the 3/8". Some seem crushed and have an oval instead of round profile. Some have gouges or missing ridges. Some have areas with off spec diameter. Will look for a different product next time.
