I am running two plastic pipes, one hot and one cold water, from inside my home to an out side building with on demand heat only. Can I tape the 2 pipes with the sensor cable together with the heat sensor  on one of the pipes? please advise

Asked by: Henning
No they need to be independently heat traced and insulated so the heat trace can regulate the temperature better

After I install the heat tape, can I wrap the pipes and tape with pipe foam insulation? What is the recommended kind of pipe insulation, foam or fiberglass? (to avoid the risk of fire)

Asked by: JackieSh
we found that there was no reason to wrap the pipes after installation of the heating cable,....but the should be no difference if insulation were to be used.....would recommend the foam....

I been doing a little research into what I can purchase to keep a outdoor 100lb propane tank warm as the cold drop the last few days are causing pressure issues and I wanna know if these would work or if there is something else recommend for that purpose?

Asked by: Austin101

I am wanting to run plastic pipe water line from my cottage to my garage above ground. The length is 75 feet. Do i just attach the heat trace to the pipe and let the pipe sit on the ground? Or does it have to be covered?

Asked by: Lake water

Package indicates the item should only be used on water pipes. I wish to use the item in 3 ft and 6 ft long aluminum 3" x 3" down spout extensions sloped on a 20 degree angle below horizontal and fed from a  GFI. Can I do so?

Asked by: ppdave

can this be used on pvc or pex pipe

Tape - Automatic Heating Tape is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Water pipe heat tape This item is a great insurance investment! All I had to do was tape it to the pipe and plug it in, nothing else needs to be done. I leave it set up all year 'round because it only comes on when the water pipe temperature falls below 40 degrees and that's when it is needed. Otherwise it just sits there waiting to go to work. Make sure you don't do what I did at first, I put the thermostat on the pipe and ran the heat tape right over it! It kept coming on and going right back off!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from If it works in Canada - it'll work anywhere! We live in Alberta, Canada and our winters can fall to below -50 degrees Celsius and colder with the windchill. Hasn't been quite that cold yet this year but our water froze up on Christmas Eve and it turned out that our original Easy Heat tape had been chewed through by some type of critter. We replaced it, and within an hour we had glorious running water again! I will say that the one issue I have with these is that the indicator light on the cord does not shut off when there is damage to the cord. We assumed the heat tape was fine because the indicator light was still on - don't rely on this! We had to manually feel the pipe under the insulation to find that it was frozen solid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for houses that have pipes that freeze I have had my set since last year. I live in a Double wide trailer and had a new well dug because of the frequent water problems we were having. Anyway the company didn't bury the pipes under the house but rather just had them laying on top of the ground. Every winter when the temps fell below freezing the pipes would freeze and when they thawed they would bust. I stayed under the house fixing pipes 3 and 4 times a winter. I did wrap them in fiber glass and got the same results. After 3 years of that I went to Lowes looking for answers. I was lead over to these heaters. I read the instructions and then got with my brother in-law. We installed 3 lengths of the wire and we used cable ties to attach the cable because it was still cold and tape wouldn't stick to the pipe. We wrapped the pipe and cable with fiber glass and then plastic and wrapped that with duck tape. The last cold snap that year fell to 19 degrees and didn't freeze, but I wasn't sure if that was because of the wrappings. This year we are just getting over the worst winter I have seen in a long time: below average temps, and record snow fall. The pipes didn't freeze. My outside faucet froze and busted but luckily I did install a shut off valve to that line. The point is the water supply to the house didn't and hasn't froze. You have to get these heaters if you are have freezing pipes. This will take care of the problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear Pipes in -40 I have an ancient home on a leaky granite foundation. I live in the Mountains of northern New England so it gets seriously cold in the winter. The pipes were (until recently) run through the crawl space and had near constant issues with freezing. After I put these tapes on under some insulation I had absolutely no issues. They went on easily, always heated up when it got cold and never broke. I had some of these on for eight years without issue. The only reason I got rid of them was that I re-plumbed the house to put the pipes inside the ceiling. They lasted so well in fact that I've handed them off to a friend who is having similar issues with a mobile home. My only complaint with the product is that they did get a little pricey to run, but my situation forced me to run eight of them so I don't think that would be a concern for most folks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Heat tape this product states on the package that it can be used on plastic (pvc) pipe. when package is opened and the "how to" instructions were read, it said it could NOT be used on plastic (pvc) pipe. you could use it possibly on pvc IF you wrap the pipe with aluminum foil - otherwise the pipe with warp or melt. It also could not be installed close to anything combustible. most water pipe is close to wood beams - they are combustible. So I promptly closed the package and returned the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and easy resolution for a winter problem. IN these wonderful Ohio winter temps, this has worked very well so far. We have gone to 0 wind chill and still did its job. We have tried so many other options and this is working so far.
