Is it suitable to cook on and does it come with a cooking grid?

Asked by: Ammy
It does not come with a cooking grid. You could put a grate over top to cook.

Has it rusted in the rain or has it held up?

Asked by: CeeBee
After 2 years, the bowl itself has rusted some but it has not compromised its usage. The lid however which is the best feature is not very good. We've gone through 2 in 2 years as they rust and fall apart

Style Selections Wood-Burning Fire Pit - Circular - 30-in - Black is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 516.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice price, terrible materials. Bought this pit over a year ago and was very pleased last season. I always took care of it and covered it when not in use and put it away in storage for the winter. Took it out this season and noticed the side material and top was rusting. The unit was dry when put away and was placed in my dry garage. However, as I used it this season the rust got worse to the point that there was more rust showing rather than the actual paint of the unit. Finally I went to use it a few weeks ago and noticed the entire bottom had rusted all the way through. Very disappointed in the product and material.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect size First thing first I bought mine from the store and the display model had the log grate in it. When I got home and opened the box there was no log grate, it wasnt even in the directions. I brought my receipt back to the store to explain there was no log grate. At the store I discovered there were two types of the same fire pit one with a log grate and the other has no grate just raised metal X buildt into the bottom. The store members were unaware of the two types but with no hesitation opened a box and gave me a log grate. Both types of fire pits are described on the tag they include a log grate. Besides that I'm really happy in the over all size of the pit, it handles a good amount of regular sized logs even with the top on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this fire pit I set up this fire pit in about 15 minutes, super easy. Added some sand to the bottom before lighting up a fabulous fire and even made S'mores. I enjoyed this pit so much I bought one online for my son to pick up at a Lowe's where he lives. Yes, there was a bit of rust after the first week, but I did leave the cover off and it rained. Nothing a can of Rustoleum didn't fix. The holes in the side allow for airflow and really keeps the fire going long and strong. For $99, don't think I could have done any better. A nice addition to the cooler Fall evenings outside : )

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just right This fire pit is a little larger than the previous fire pit we had, 30" compared to 35". Which is a good thing since we can have bigger fires. Nice design and easy to assemble. One con is the small or short fire poker, it could be another foot longer. On a safety note if you have this on a wood deck be sure to fill the bottom of the fire pit with sand, about an inch deep, to act as an insulator. This will prevent any flash over or discoloring of the deck. This was not mentioned in the manual of the new fire pit but it was recommended for the old fire pit which was of similar design.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase The design is made so that you can see through the sides to see the logs and fire. Nice surprise that it was larger than we expected. Sits off the ground at a nice height. We put sand down first so that the fire didn't sit right on the bottom. Great for sitting quietly by the fire or roasting hotdogs & marshmallows for making smores with the grandchildren.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from That ill-fitting cover!!! I bought this fire pit at Lowe’s and brought it home and assembled it the very next morning. After it was completely assembled I set the lid down on the fire pit — it did not fit! It was not even close. Not even a judgment call. So because it was $100 fire pit I took it back. Got a refund. Went and found an identical item at Lowe’s and checked the fit before I left the store. So bottom line is: the dimensional tolerances on this fire pit may be questionable. See other one star negative reviews posted here and you will note many other customers have had the same problem. Caveat Emptor. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this I bought one of these about 4yrs ago. It finally has more rust on it than I am comfortable with and there is a small hole in the bottom where it has rusted through. I am pitching that one and getting a new one just like it. I like how deep it is. My helpful tip is, if you are not going to use it for a while, dump the sand out. Leaving the sand on the bottom....in the dampness...year round... contributed to the rust on mine cos no matter how well it is covered up, moisture WILL get in. I was not a good firepit mom:)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fire Pit is good This is a very basic fire pit that does what it is supposed to do, hold burning wood or charcoal. The screens work well to keep popping sparks from flying out of the fire pit. The only minor adjustment we did to it was to drill a few drain holes in the bottom so it would not hold water and rust out when left outside. We did this to our last one and it lasted 5 years in the elements before rusting out. A few years ago these came with canvas covers to protect them when not in use, but the new ones do not have this convenient item.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Fire Pit that I have ever had !!! I had read an earlier review that the inside had been painted with high heat paint. I decided to do that out of the box, mainly because I live in a high humidity area. It was a great idea. During the first use the screen became a little misshapen and I was unhappy. I took the screen off for a few minutes and it went right back into shape(Phew!!!). I bought it a few weeks ago and am extremely happy, now it is on their ad for $30.00 off .(Rats !!!)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value Beore putting it together, I sprayed inside of fire pit and underside of cover with 2000 degree rustoleum engine paint, flat black. Then I sprayed the outside of both with rustoleum "hammered" black. Looks really great. Also bought a small fire grate that fits well inside. Easy to put together. I still want to drill some drain holes. It works well. Lots of room for firewood. Metal is heavier than many other fire pits of similiar price. Great value. Shopped around a lot. This was best deal. Cover is a plus, but it is a bit flimsy. I hope it now lasts 3 years at least.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I love that this firepit has a removable grate in the bottom to help prevent it from rotting away. Our last firepit did not have this feature and it only lasted 2 seasons. Like how it is "open" with a grate on the sides. We used it the first weekend we got it. Safe around the kids also! Would recommend! Also comes with a pitch fork ( for lack of a better term) to move the logs & embers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Product looks like it was dragged behind a truck. I picked this up from Lowe's customer online pickup. The box looked a bit banged up and re-taped. When I pulled the fire pit out of the box, the item was badly scratched all the way around. It was missing the paint on large areas with parts of the metal ground down like it had been dragged behind a truck. With all of the paint that has been scraped off, this item will start rusting immediately!! Very disappointed with the condition of this item and displeased that Lowe's customer service would select for my pickup a boxed item that was in this bad a shape. I will be returning it tomorrow. Out the time and gas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for the money This is a great fire pit for the money. I have used it a ton since I bought it. The only complaint I have is that the metal on the lid gets rusted easily. I left the cover off one time when it rained and it rusted. But really, for the money it's a super buy. It's sturdy and larger than other pits so you can easily put larger pieces of wood into it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful addition for the price Bought my first fire pit this year after searching long and hard for one we could afford that would add beauty and warmth to our patio. It seams pretty sturdy as I had to get help in moving it. The design is also a plus with the open sides it makes for a good flow of air that creates a nice fire. Looks Great on Patio and feels wonderful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Fire Pit We purchased this fire pit to burn sticks from our yard. The first one we got was damaged when we got it out of the box but we returned it and the second one was fine. Easy to put together. We purchased this last summer and have used it several times over the past year. We kept it covered but the mesh cover has rusted but doesn't seem to matter. The vinyl cover has fallen apart though and I had to make a new one. It basically disintegrated. It was nice it came with one but don't expect it to last very long. Overall it is a good product and hope it last for a few years!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this! We bought this at the end of the summer season on a little bit of a discount. I have had a portable fire pit before, but I love this one. It was a great price, and it is very spacious inside. It fits a lot of wood compared to the other fire pits I've had that costed more money. It easily held ~6+ logs and was easy to maintain with all of the holes in the sides for the fire to breathe (which also helped it put out a lot of heat). We used it at a family reunion out of town, and when we were done with it, we loaded it back into the truck and took it home. Definitely recommend! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fire Pit Great purchase. Comes with a plastic rain cover, and a poker-lid remover. Screened cover works great, limits flying cinders. Great on the patio. Careful on the lawn. Intense flame will burn up lawn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sand people! So have you read in the manual to add sand in the bottom? Well it makes a difference and not sure everyone knows to do that. It is stated in the warnings, not how to set it up.
Date published: 2016-09-17
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not the Pits ;) Very nice fire pit. Sturdy and made with good material. Nice design, attractive and works well. Two small issues: the base (ring) of the cover was slightly oval shaped and didn't fit well to the base. Also, after I got it home and read the instructions, I discovered I needed sand to put in the bottom of the pit which required a second trip to the store. Other than that, it's top notch!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Pit Bought this little gem today to replace our old chiminea that had fallen apart after 10 yrs! This was put together by hubby in 10 minutes, so easy to assemble only tool needed is a screw driver. It is sturdy snd not flimsy. I agree with the other reviews that the cover does not fit exactly but it works and does it's job. We did not put sand in the bottom has risen metal that allows air flow under the wood. It has a nice deep pit and the open design in the sides also help air flow. We are using it as I type this and it gives off some pretty nice heat! All in all it is a great pit for $99.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fire pit This is a great fire pit. It's very deep compared to the shallow soup-type fire bowls. Also like that heat can come out the sides instead of just the top. The included vinyl cover with drawstring is great and seems to be of decent quality. Also comes with a grate that sits in the bottom of the pit to keep wood above the ashes...smart. We look forward to using this nearly every weekend in the fall!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Fire Pit! What a bargen. Not only does it look great but you can really get a nice fire going in this fire pit. It comes with a nice screen lid to keep hot ash from flying around, a tool for lifting the cover when it's hot and PVC cover to keep the weather from getting to it when not in use. For the same price of some of the smaller pits, this one gives you plenty of room to build a nice hot fire for those chilly nights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fire pit, Cheap cover This fire pit is great for patio use. The perforated screened-sides allow heat to radiate sideways instead of just up (as with stone/mason pits). The one negative aspect is the included vinyl cover is VERY poorly made. I cautiously pulled the drawstring and the eyelet immediately ripped through the vinyl. Other than that, it is a great value ($99) with great features!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage! DO NOT BUY! This firepit spark arrestor is a joke. The screen started warping almost immediately and now the band that was tack welded to it is almost completely detached. The wire mesh has burned right through. Do not waste your time or money on this unit. The base is nice but if you require a spark arrestor that won't disintegrate within a month of sparing use then look elsewhere. This is a piece of garbage and I will be returning it. Also the vinyl cover is a piece of garbage too, ripped in several place almost immediately as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Was Not Sure at First - Very Pleased Now I saw this model on the floor display at my local Lowes and compared it to the other wood-burning pits there. Here is my comparison results: This was the only fire pit that stood up to my gentle shake test to check how sturdy they are. Everything else, from the cheaper models to the more expensive ones all felt very flimsy and shook way too easily. Compared to the more expensive ones, this particular model was larger, round, more sturdy and has a higher capacity frame and bottom grate. I prefer the round, circular design because you can comfortably fit more people around a circle than you can around a square. At first I was unsure of the vented sides. But that has proved to be one of the features that sets this unit apart from the others. It allows for maximum air flow and feed the fire with the necessary oxygen to keep it going, rather than suffocating it in an unnatural way. I unboxed the unit, and sprayed it down with a RustOleum product rust preventive spray paint for high temperatures. I sprayed all the surfaces except for the exterior of the pit and legs; everything else received a good coat of spray. I know that it will last a long time now. After that, I spent about 10 minutes putting it together. All it requires is a screw driver, I used an electric drill with a phillips head bit. Bought it this afternoon, assembled it and the Fire Pit is burning right now and we love it. I like this model for the following reasons, in order: - Very Sturdy and durable - Large size with large bottom grate - highest capacity for cost - Vented Sides - High Quality - Circular design - Easy to assemble (just need a screw driver) - Included a cover

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great firepit for the money I took the advice of other reviewers and got the high temp Rustoleum in black, spraying it down really well before starting my first fire. It did NOT come with a grate, nor was that listed on the parts list, so I have no idea why it was listed on the product (when I purchased it online.) I used some old rabbit fencing, folded over into a square'ish shape, on the bottom to support the logs. I was careful not to allow the pointed ends to scratch the finish. Perfect size for my backyard, the bigger pit would've been too large. I'm pleased with the overall design and the side screens allow airflow for a good fire, but the feet seem slightly wobbly even though they're attached with 3 screws. They are sturdy enough but a fourth screw would've been a good idea. Screen fits perfectly, and the poker is a good addition.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Rust Bucket Yes the lid holds in the cinders, yes the fire poker/ lid remover is handy, yes it’s sturdy and comes with a cover...HOWEVER the lid warps with the heat of the fire, and the whole thing rusts up if you even think about water while you look at it. I’ve never seen any kind of metal rust so easily. It started to sprinkle/mist outside so we grabbed up the fire pit and moved it under the cover of our patio and left it uncovered to dry-by the next morning it had fine orange rust all over and in it! It got caught in rain another time and my husband wiped it out and down with paper towels, and it still rusted. So if there’s any chance of it raining where you live, or you have high humidity, purchase something else. If you live in the Sahara desert, or like watching the Weather channel 24-7 and babysitting fire pits, go for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Poor quality screen I bought this fire pit to burn some small sticks in my yard so the depth was important to me. It does hold a lot of wood. However, it only took one fire and the screen top was completely wrinkled up and sunken -- not only the screen, but the metal straps across the top also collapsed. It's still useable for the purpose of burning sticks, but is pretty unpresentable. It was even worse after the 2nd fire, and will probably only last through a few more when it will completely collapse, and I'll have to have a custom cover made since a cover is mandatory in my neighborhood. I'm sure a custom cover will cost as much as the fire pit. The main body of the fire pit is still holding up (after only 2 fires), but already has a little rust on it. At least it doesn't show signs of warping yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My family loves this fire pit. It's wide and deep enough to build a large campfire and the lattice on the sides allows everyone to see more of the fire. It's lightweight, easy to carry (it has handles) and comes with a storage cover. Clean up afterwards was easy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from spark screen did not fit If you do not care about the spark screen then it is a nice fire pit and i would give it 4 to 5 stars. however since I'm paying for a spark screen it needs to be functional which it is not so thats why i gave it 2 stars. It's low to the ground but they provide a flimsy heat shield but if you have a large fire it will still mess up the grass, it seems pretty sturdy and looks good and comes with a cover so you don't have to worry about leaving it out in the rain but the spark screen did not fit and would slide off the top with the slightest nudge.
