Hi, I am redoing a 100 year old home and there is no insultation want to know if this can be used inside of exterior walls rather than exterior?

Asked by: froggy128
I have used this on the interior of my 100-year home (after verifying with Rockwool tech support that this was allowed). But you have to distinguish between where to use regular Rockwool batts (flexible) and Comfortboard (rigid). If you have access to the interior wall cavity (i.e.- after stripping off the plaster and lath), then it is much easier, more tightly sealed, and more cost-effective to use the batts. In my case, I used 3.5" batts in between my 2x4 studs which gave me R-14. As I live in Climate Zone 6a (southern Canada), the minimum code requirement for exterior walls is R-20. So I added a 1.5" layer of Comfortboard (R-6) on top of the studs--held on with 1x4 furring strips screwed into the studs and then finished with a vapor barrier (optional) and 1/2" gyproc. Important to caulk all the floor-wall joints and wall/window joint to minimize air infiltration before installing finishing mouldings. Hope this helps.

When installing on cement wall in basement do I have to install floor to ceiling, is it possible to just install to ground level where most moisture is?

Asked by: Kgirl
to comment of amount of insulation that code requires: R-16 continuous, R20 if this is insulated framing (framing with framing factor 20% insulated with batts of R-20 will give you equivalent insulation R-16). Roxul recommended design was to install Comfortboard continuously on the wall (glue), then 6 mil poly, then regular framing with 2x4 and R-14 batts, then smart vapour retarder, and finally drywalll. This will give you R-16 continuous as well.

Can you insulate garage with this, my child’s bedroom is over the garage in our new house and there is no insulation, it’s alreadybstarting to become very cold during the nights in that room. Would the installation process be the same? Also, could you use

Asked by: Annie1118
I would consult a contractor, we use it mostly for sound deadening in high voltage electrical equipment. I'm sure you could use it but I would think you might want something thicker, having a contractor take look would be the best start in my opinion.

Can I use this product under the subfloor on the concrete in the basement?

Asked by: JacksonMichael
If you install the product below the concrete then yes. However if it is on top of the concrete you want to use a product that has channels on the bottom of it to allow for movement of air so any water can evaporate properly. So above concrete and below subfloor? No.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would recommend this to a friend My husband and I tore down the drywall in our finished basement when we found there was no insulation in our 1953 build basement. We added Roxul Comfort Board 80, which was simpler than I thought to install.. now our finished rec room is a comfortable place to spend the evening with the family

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should be standard in all residential construction! I used Roxul for the cavity insulation and for a drained screen wall system under fibre cement siding. Adds value and longevity to structure, especially good at handling wet locales due to ease of vapour transmission. Reduces risk of trapped moisture in ever more seals building envelopes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bought to improve sound proofing... Didn't help. I had to replace sheathing on one of my walls which was covered with 1.5in Styrofoam. Knowing that we would be damaging the Styrofoam I decided to replace it with Comfortboard 80. Our neighbors deck is 5 feet from this wall (and all our bedrooms are against this wall, no windows or doors). Noise from the neighbor has been an ongoing issue so I was also hoping that the Comfortboard would help reduce the amount we can hear (not all but at least some). In that regard, the Comfortboard made literally zero difference. I'm not sure what sounds it's suppose to absorb but I can still hear them talking and yelling (exact same as it was when the Styrofoam was on the wall). I can also still hear cars driving by. Other than that, I believe it was cheaper than the Styrofoam and it was super easy to cut and install so for those two reasons, it was a better choice us.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good material for use as continuous insulation Roxul shows that this material should be installed on foundation walls with high end fasteners with large washers; however, I just used construction adhesive as a way of temporarily fastening the ComfortBoard to my concrete block foundation walls then installed 2 x 4 framing that will permanently hold the rigid continuous insulation in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the best basement thermal break Easy to cut, better than other board insulation, was so easy to install in basement as a thermal break. Only downside was it was hard to find, and I could only find it at one local insulation distributor. The good news was the comfortboard I bought was left over from a commercial job and I got it at a really good price, better than the box stores that I would have had to order from.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic for basement cement wall applications! Application of Roxul Comfortboard was a guessing game as the video did not fully instruct about the proper technique to apply this product to cement walls. Luckily, I have a son who is a carpenter and he told us what to use, and helped install it! We used metal washers and cement screws which we pre-drilled holes in the cement and then drilled the screws in place, which held the Roxul Comfortboard on adequately. The room had two exterior walls to insulate. We also made a 2 x 4 walls on top of the Roxul, squaring the room, and then inserted the Roxul Batt Insulation into this wall, giving a total of R20 on our basement exterior walls, (Roxul Comfortboard being R6, and the Roxul Batt Insulation being R14). The room is now very soundproof, warm, and comfortable!!! I could do with the $5000.00 prize money as we still need to finish this room, as we ran out of money! A great product and I plan to purchase more, once we win this contest! :)
