Rinnai Tankless Water Heater - Natural Gas - 9 GPM/160k BTUs is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 140.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great water heater but not silent We've had the RU160IN working for about 1 week now. It is very sensitive to water flow and will kick on with the slightest hot water movement. When it kicks on, it takes about 30 seconds to get hot water from a faucet 20ft away. It's not silent, bit not too loud either. We mounted in in a spare bedroom closet and when it's running it sounds like a car is driving down the road from approx 200' away. That's the best description I can give, it's not that bad but I wouldn't mount it in a closet close to where you'll be sleeping unless you have a noise machine to aid in sleep. It produces around 45db, but when it's mounted to an interior wall, the sound resonates a bit more. You can figure out how to install it yourself since the manual was very informative. You have to run either 2-2" 2-3" or a big 5" concentric vent pipe. If your vent run is not that long, you can use 2", I used 2-3" pipes (one for air intake {combustion} and one for exhaust). It comes with the water isolation valves so it's ready to bring in your water lines via 3/4" NPT female connections. To avoid the "cold water sandwich" I ran the output into a small 12 gallon water heater so we always have a buffer of hot water. I can't wait to see how much my gas bills are now! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Extremely noisy The top of the line unit I bought is a great heater . However , I’m frustrated with the noise . I think the noise comes from the fan . So I keep it shot down and just turn it on , via WiFi , when we need to take a shower . That’s it . It is installed in the garage right behind a bedroom and a bathroom . But I couldn’t go to sleep if it is turned up at night . One suggestion for the company : add a device inside so it can get rid of the noise One suggestion for the installer : please install it on a wall that is not backing up to any rooms . It should be on the wall facing the street . Maybe in that case Thr people in the house would not here the noise .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Tankless Unit Had the unit installed a few weeks ago, saving space in the small basement, never running out of hot water, and saving on the fuel costs are all big draws. Takes some getting used to low flow situations, like washing your face/shaving - anything where you need hot water, but not continuous or at high flow. There is also a minor annoyance with my house because I have a well & an expansion tank. The water heater doesn't seem to want to kick on till the expansion tank gets low enough that the pump kicks on. Means that the water for showers needs to be turned on a little early which isn't a big deal, but slightly annoying if the tank is low and I just want to wash my hands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cost Savings I replaced an existing 70 gallon electric hot water tank. I have only had this tankless system for a few months and already there is a significant drop in my electricity bill and a minimal increase in my natural gas bill. I chose not to put in a circulating system (for more instant hot water) as the main reason I installed it was to save fuel (money). There is a slight increase in time for the hot water to reach the tap, but the savings outweigh having to wait an extra 15 seconds. I was able to increase the set temperature using the spec sheet. It was not really intuitive (they recommend the installer do this), but it was relatively easy as long as I meticulously followed the instruction sheet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfied Customer I am very satisfied with the Rinnai water heater. I, along with some of my friends, were under the impression that you had instant hot water. In reality, it takes longer for the water to get hot but once it does, you can run the washer, dish washer, shower all at the same time and never run out. I have had it a little over a month and am very happy with it. Love the fact that it is very compact and takes up much less space being on the wall than my 50 gal. tank did on the floor. I am very pleased with the fast service that I received from Plum Tite and Dustin, who installed the heater.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rinnai Rocks!!! I have owned the Rinnai RU160IN Sensei model for 3 months now. The feature that convinced me to pull trigger was stainless steel condensing unit. What I like most about the unit was the flexibility with installation on venting. You can either go with direct or concentric. I went with concentric for the look and efficiency. What I dislike most about the unit was the noise level of the internal fan while the unit is running, it is quite LOUD. Overall, the unit exceeded all my expectations and I’m very happy with my purchase. Only times will tell how reliable Japan vs USA product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Investment This is the second time I lived in a home with a Rinnai tankless system. The first was a rental and we really liked not running out of hot water. So when a plumber told us that we should consider replacing our 12 year-old traditional water heater we knew we wanted to go tankless. I think the system we bought this time is a little better than the one we had in our house rental. At this point, it is too soon to tell the cost savings we will see in our gas bill. But at least we have piece of mind that we will always have hot water and that our water heater is about to exploide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rinnai ru160i replacement of tank Had the tankless for about a month so my rating is mostly on my experience. With tankless you never run out of hot water which is why we replaced the tank. You do need to change your usage as it takes a little longer to get hot water going to the tap and we found that the water pressure went slightly down almost not noticeable. I don't think there will be much savings over a tank but from our experience it definitely meets our needs as our family takes showers and baths around the same time and during the weekends when we have multiple laundries and dishwashers going at the same time we never run out of water; which we did in the past. Overall would I go back to tank, the answer is no and so far I'm happy with the purchase.
