Recommend with reservation
I would recommend the refrigerator with reservation. If you are thinking of buying it, there are a few things I would tell you to consider. The interior shelves do not reach the back wall of the refrigerator so small items can fall off the shelf. The left door has a hinged seal. We have had trouble with the door closing since we got the refrigerator. You have to be diligent about making sure the left door is shut because the seal will get stuck and keep the door slightly ajar. Unfortunately the door alarm does not go off because the door is not wide open. This is a definite design flaw!
Lastly, stainless steel is so hard to keep clean.

Depth of unit black band
To respond to purchasers who complain about the "black band" showing, I blame that 100% on installer error. I am a building contractor for 35 years, and if it's the flush built in panel look a client is after, it's obvious by the closed unit dimension without handles, which l believe to be 27.5", common sense tells you a pocket needs to be constructed behind the fridge to allow the unit to become flush to the wall and base unit doors.
My advice on a resolution, research your contractor's experience in kitchen installs.
This is NO WAY a manufacturer issue, more like contractor /home owner ignorance. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Terrible design
I strongly advice against buying this refrigerator. It has two serious design defects:
1. The shelves do not extend all the way to the back of the compartment. Not only is valuable space wasted, but items easily get stuck or fall to lower shelves. See the attached picture.
2. The shelf brackets do not go all the way to the bottom of the compartment. This means that if you position the bottom shelf at the lowest level, it flexes whenever something is set on the shelf. See the attached video.

Perfect fit
Our pre-retirement check off list consisted of making sure we purchased big ticket items that might require replacement in the immediate future. Our old fridge never fit the preexisting cupboard space and was showing some signs of old age. The requirements were tight, requiring a counter depth but shorter height fridge. The one fit like a glove. Apart from the fit, the interior is a design plus. With the personal addition of a few "lazy susan's" to maximize space for minimally used jars of sauces and condiments, the smaller cubic foot size is not an issue...everything at a quick arm's reach without moving things around. KitchenAid-ugh
Do your homework-read up, we didn't. We bought this model 2 yrs ago (good value) but after a year the freezer seals failed. Out of contract we paid for a service call where I was told that this model & KitchenAid in general had similar issues. At night(?) the freezer leaks and without a towel to collect the water-we would have floor issues too. This issue continues...cannot return to Lowes-left to sell a faulty fridge at a huge loss on CraigList-dumping my problem on someone else isn't right either.

Not up to snuff
We are remodeling a condominium unit for a client and they selected this refrigerator assuming is was counter depth......well it isn't. As previous reviewers stated with the unit installed it sticks out the thickness of the doors plus panels. And the doors are black......It is not designed as a counter depth refrigerator and should not be advertised as one. In order to make the installation even look passable, we are going to have to cut the back of the wall out to move the unit further back to hide the black doors. Then expand the opening in the built in cabinet to accept the swing of the doors beyond 90 degrees. If we don't you can't get the drawers out. Incredible [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

'Black band' solution
We had our cabinet maker create 1/4"-plywood pieces in the same finish as the door panels, and then attached adhesive magnetic strips to the back of the pieces. They hold to the sides of the doors and freezer drawer and create the custom finished look that everyone is hoping to achieve. You just have to measure below the hinges and inside the gasket seal for a proper fit. (Approx: doors 43 x 2-1/4", drawers 23 x 2-1/4") [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Spacious
We bought this counter depth refrigerator and had cabinets built around it to give us that built in refrigerator look. I was very concerned about losing refrigerator space going with this style; however, I had nothing to worry about! The french door style provides so much more room than our old side by side! The lower freezer took some getting use to but it has been easy to organize and find items later. The top doors have a door open alarm. I wish the freezer had this as well because the freezer is harder for little ones to close tight. The water is so much colder inside than when on the outer door. The filter was easy to install. Beautiful refrigerator!

Great Fridge - Don't purchase panel option
We have a 15 year old kitchen and needed to replace our fridg. We decided to go with our original design with matching cabinet panel inserts. I would heavily discourage anyone from doing this unless it's a new kitchen and all new cabinets are going in. We have gone to at least 6 cabinet vendors and nobody wants to touch this job. 1) It's too small of a job 2) color matching is a big deal 3) It's about 75% cost of a new fridg. I'm hoping I can help anyone else from getting into this predicament! 1+ year later and we are looking at an unfinished ugly black refrigerator. It works well though....

Nice fridge - horrible shelf design
You guys really missed the mark on the design of the shelves for the unit. There is a good three to four inches between the shelf and the back of the fridge. You could have at least put something at the back of the shelf to stop items from falling down the back. Everything else is fantastic. You would have had a perfect fridge if not for the shelves [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Love the extra space!
We haven't had it for too long, but after having our lemon of Electrolux, this new unit is wonderful!! The extra space really makes a different. We decided to skip the door devices with water and ice. One less thing to break down. The ice maker on the bottom draw is great and it comes with a scoop so you can use it to retrieve the ice! It also has a drinking water spout inside the fridge that has a filter so water is filtered. It also has a wine/bottle rack inside so you can place up to 4-5 tall bottles. Leaving the door shelves free for other things. We are very happy, I hope it last for many years to come! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Thank you other reviewer with leaking freezer.l
I have similar model..it came with my house new, my builder purchases everything from Lowe’s..and the same leaking is happening with the freezer and my kitchen is all hardwood floors..and I too need to use a towel after several leaks..it leaks at least a few times a week..at least I know i need a p trap or whatever now..going to order..but my Kitchen Aid dishwasher and refrigerator suck.. and when I do replace I will not be buying again.. My oven I don’t really know if it sucks or not because I rarely use it. But when replacing i will just buy all matching same brand new appliances and see if I can sell my “like new” oven ..and the other appliances..if i don’t sell the house first.really annoying ..the dishwasher doesn’t clean and the refrigerator leaks..ugh [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Poor design For a fridge from
Sticks out
I completely agree about the comments of the fridge sticking out. I realized it is counter depth not built-in and expected the panel doors Not to be flush with the counter. What they don’t mention is that it sticks out an additional 4 inches to accommodate the width of the doors. Doesn’t this make the idea of a counter depth panel ready fridge completely misleading? I would never have spent the extra money to make it look like have a tree if it was just going to stick out like a sore thumb

Looks nice
Part of a package of KitchenAid appliances for my new home just completed. Generally satisfied but a couple of things I wish were different. 1. A big issue! Lots of interior space wasted because of the shallow depth of the glass shelves. Many things fall down to next shelf area in the back because of the overly large gap between shelf and interior back wall. Need deeper shelves! Seems it would be an easy remedy. 2. Must open both doors when getting something out of the left or right drawer. Wish it could be sized and lined up to be able to open only one door to get to the drawer. Beautiful Refrigerator
We bought this refrigerator 2 months ago. It is a wonderful upgrade from the 25 year old one that we replaced! The salesperson pointed out the fact that the upper shelves don't go all the way to the back and therefore smaller items (like cans of beverages) can fall through the cracks if pushed all the way back. Glad we didn't learn that the hard way. Still getting used to the bottom freezer feature (previous was side x side). Doesn't seem to hold as much as previous freezer. Love the ice maker and water dispenser inside the door. Didn't want those visible. Overall great refrigerator! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This Fridge Is SO Intelligently Designeddjavascrip
We don't need a tablet screen in our fridge. We just need better basic utility than our last Samsung at our former home. This fridge has it all. Inside dispenser for filtered water so that if you spill it does not go anywhere along the stainless, but stays inside and easy to clean up. The option to pull out the ice tray with the freezer drawer or to leave it in is amazing. There's a latch for that! It's spacious and keeps thing organized and looking super neat. Everything has a place in this fridge and it's easy to see all your items without hunching or needing a step stool. Great piece!!!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Roomier than I expected!
I was worried that the counter depth refrigerator would not be large enough for my family, but that hasn't been a problem. It holds a lot more than our previous full-depth side by side, and everything is easier to see and reach. I like that the door shelves have removable liners that can be washed. One negative - I have to open both doors to access the deli center, but I prefer that to separate drawers - the deli center holds a lot, and having it the width of the refrigerator gives me more flexible storage to hold wide trays. Also, it's very quiet, which is important because our kitchen is open to our family room. It looks great in my remodeled kitchen, even though we had to re-use our existing oven due to budget restraints. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Good Fridge.
I bought this fridge at the beginning of the summer. We just had the cabinet doors put on,and it looks awesome. This is the first cabinet ready appliance we have purchased. It is annoying that they cost more than the ones with doors and handles,it does not make sense to me. The fridge it self has been good, the pull out freezer drawer is not as sturdy as the built in option we looked at. If I got the opportinity to do it all over again, I think I would have considered the built in option more serioulsy. I am very happy with how it looks, but I think the built in models are just better quality. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Loving the Black Chrome
We’ve had our fridge up and running for a couple of months now and we love it! The finish lives up to expectations with no finger prints or smudges to constantly wipe away. The water filter tap is super handy and has encouraged us to drink more (added health bonus!) and the double width fresh produce drawer Is definitely a plus! If I had to find any fault it is either the ice drawer...when attached to the front for easier access this blocks the lower compartment a fair bit so accessible to that can be compromised....really not a big deal! We love how well it goes with our decor..win, win for us! (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Poor performance all around
I have had this fridge for 4 years and it was my first kitchenaid purchase... the issues have been not stop starting with fruit and vegetables getting ice frozen in the refrigerator - settings are always at recommended levels or higher but nothing works. our food spoils earlier as a result of this and the grocery bill has been awful. We have had kitchenaid twice come in and fix the sidings to the freezer and french doors. The inside water flow has gotten worse over time. Not to mention the shelves and gap in the back for food to fall over. Finally the external doors - dont even think of putting fridge magnets on there - scratches easily.

Poor Design
I have some real problems with this fridge. Let me start with the gray depths. They do not extend right to the back wall, there is a significant gap, not only giving you less fridge space but also allowing items to fall through.
I also have a problem with the door closure design. There is this moveable narrow strip along the length of the door that does not go into place properly. I am constantly having to move it forward so that the door will seal correctly.
It is also very difficult to remove and replace the bins for washing. And finally, it has cold spots likely due to the door improperly sealing. Very disappointed in this fridge.

Beautiful refrigerator but already had problems
We needed a counter depth refrigerator for our space. It fits a surprising amount of food in a small space. My only complaint is we have had it for just over a month and we have already had problems. Apparently, there is an auto defrost system in the back of the freezer by the ice maker. Something went wrong and we had a bunch of frost build up which than led to a malfunction and the refrigerator was no longer keeping things cool. We were able to get a technician in right away and they have ordered the part but we have no idea when the part will be in and the repair can be done. Very disappointing. RE: Appliance Guy
Appliance Guy is absolutely right. I sell appliances and I have been selling this model for 5 plus years straight even when it had the curved Architect series handle. In that time frame I have had one issue which was a sealing issue on the bottom freezer and that was taken care of with ease. This is an industry where problems arise people. Do you expect to buy a car and never have any issues? The only negative thing I have to say about this refrigerator is the black frame makes it hard to design around white cabinets or lighter cabinets in general. Otherwise keep up the great work KitchenAid!! (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Heartbroken!
I am extremely heartbroken. I wish I would have read all these reviews BEFORE buying this awful thing! My husband and I have recently built a brand new home. I was so excited to have this beautiful custom kitchen until now! If I would have known this door issue, I would have never bought it. You can’t push it in because then the doors won’t open. Since the cabinets are complete, you cannot redo the cabinets but even if you could, I don’t think it would help. I guess I am stupid because I thought buying a Kitchenaid product, I was buying quality. Boy was I wrong!

Wish I could return
We have had this fridge for a year now. It replaced a fridge we had for 21 years. It he interior configuration does not offer the flexibility I want. Having shelves that go all the way across with the half shelf drop down results in loss of space as I rarely have product that can fit in the back. With the control panel in the front you are limited as to what you can store in the door shelves as items that are high hit the buttons that adjust the fridge and freezer temperature. This has resulted in loss of food as it has been frozen. My husband has added an indicator so bottles higher then a certain height are not placed on the shelf

It's good, not great
It's a good refrigeration, not great. It does the job. I was annoyed that after 3 months of use the rubber around the door started to break. This wasn't a cheap appliance I would expect that things would hold up longer than 3 months. I did not contact KitchenAid yet so I don't know if they would replace it. The water dispenser also leaves water droplets in the refrigerator after you use it which isn't a huge problem, just annoying
to have to keep cleaning. I am at the point where there is no company or product that makes anything to last so despite these issues, it it overall a good refrigerator. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Love my Counter Depth Refrigerator
Love everything about my refrigerator. Counter-depth is perfect - I also had the studs turned to gain another 2-1/2" to recess the refrigerator further to align with the counters. Love the storage capacity, love the interior water dispenser, there is more than enough space for everything, and for keeping items easily accessible and organized. Food stays fresher, longer. Storage bins keep produce fresh, shelves are plentiful and I'm able to keep foods organized. Freezer drawers are perfect for organizing various shapes/sizes and find items easily.
