Which side of the fitting does the waste drain from? For example, with the valve closed, which side will drain if I open the waste cap?
There is an arrow on the valve that shows the correct water flow direction, and the valve should be installed accordingly. When installed in this direction, the downstream side of the valve will drain when the drain port is opened.
