Specifications say post is 6 inches long. Is this correct? Or should it say 6 feet long?

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fred from A Huge Improvement I had an old steel light post that looked bad but was firmly set and solid. It needed an upgrade or a replacement. Fortunately despite its appearance the existing post was plumb. It took some engineering but I sleeved the new vinyl post over the old steel post. Since I wouldn't be installing it over a treated 4x4 post as the instructions outline, securing it would require a different approach (it shouldn't be loose so it can move around). To secure it I glued treated wood shims cut from 3/4 scrap inside the vinyl (it is very thick and sturdy itself) with marine grade caulk (the caulk sets up in about an hour so you can get the project done pretty quickly) so that it was a snug fit on the existing pipe (the shims are really full height blocking - much easier than trying to install it as a few discrete locations and much more secure). Fortunately the height was about right but the end of the vinyl that slips into the base could be trimmed if it needed to be shortened by a few inches Assembling the vinyl working from the ground up as you go makes it much easier - don't assemble the entire vinyl sleeve and then try to slide it over the existing pipe / post in one piece. A little marine caulk on the pipe as the new vinyl was slid on and the result is snug and secure. A little creativity and about 3 hours of work and a small investment I have a beautiful new light post where the old light had been. A new fixture tops it off and that should do it for several years.
