Could this trellis be used as an espalier to support dwarf fruit trees?
Hello there. Yes, it should be fine as long as the trees do not get too overly big and heavy.

While we do have many trellises available in white (vinyl), this particular design is not one of them.

is it possible to make this free standing as a divider for privacy in my back yard?
Anything is possible I guess. Remember that if you set it up as a freestanding unit, it will act as a big sail when the wind blows. You'll have to secure it with posts that go 36" into the ground and make sure that they are fastened tightly to the trellis somehow.
Not impossible but we've never seen it done. Let us know how it works for you.
