What base would I use if I am painting a dark couloured wall with a light colour?
In order to determine the correct base you will need please call our Color Department directly at 1-877-825-7727 option 3.

What is the difference between the bases? (A,B,C)
What base you need is determined by what colour you will be tinting the paint to. The different bases have different amounts of white pigment in them. The white helps provide coverage and keeps light colours from being transparent. But if you are tinting to a dark colour, you don't want to be fighting a high white content or you'll never get enough tint in the can to achieve your deep colour.

Can this be used on unprimed drywall and joint compound? The description says "Applies easily to properly prepared and PRIMED plaster, wallboard, wood, and metal" but product name indicates it is a primer. Confused....
I’ve always followed a hint my father told me one day that if it’s new drywall, put a coat of primer on it 1st. Then paint it. If the wall had been painted before, you might be able to get away with going ahead with the paint/primer in one. But if you’re new paint is a significantly different colour, it’s always best to put a coat of primer on it 1st. I like to start with a clean palate which is why I usually prime the walls 1st. Hope this helps.

Could this paint be used for bare plywood floor?
I would recommend you use bullseye water base primer first on bare wood floor. Valspar carries water base deck and floor paint. I used this on old farmhouse wood floors. It covered nicely but I wish I would have used a clear sealer afterwards because it stays a bit tacky. I would recommend you use the floor paint on your wood floor.

Is this paint good for bathrooms or is there a better valspur paint for the high humidity?
Valspar Signature Paint can be used in a bathroom setting. The higher the sheen (satin or semi-gloss) the more moisture resistance will be attained. Please allow a sufficient cure time of at least 4 days before running a shower.

You get what you pay for
Watery and doesn't cover well. Not as good as other top brands, like BM Regal or Natura, not even close. We thought being Zero VOC it would be somewhat comparable, but it's not. It is low odor, but the odor lingers a long time, and the coverage is not nearly as good. I'd rather pay double and have the smell gone the next day, as well as good coverage, than pay less and have to work more. We gave up because of the smell after the first coat, but it's already noticeable how see-through this paint is compared to the BM paint we were used to. If you're not very picky and you don't mind some smell, it may work okay for you, but I don't need any special or better coverage, is mentioned on the can.. the coverage is what you'd expect from an Average budget paint.

Good thing that only one can was bought to do a small bathroom. Worst paint that I have used. Must be too thick. Started the cutting with a high quality brush and it does not spread evenly. And it leaves brush marks. The paint cannot be reworked. It appears to peel off and smudges when reworking the paint within a ten second span. Note that the walls had been previously primed with Valspar ceiling paint. No complaints with the ceiling paint which was a much cheaper paint.

Great Paint, lousy can
I purchased the product 14 months ago, used part of the can, then now I went to finish the job. The paint is now in some new style paint can. Usually there is no problem, there is a one piece rim over which the lid fits. Valspar uses a two piece rim which is near impossible to remove the lid later. The second rib of steel, captures the lid so strongly that you have to bend the lid severely to reopen the can. The paint is just fine, only the can is the issue.

Not high hiding poor coverage. Avoid
I purchased this paint on sale and the reviews said it was good paint. It isn't. 2 coats on primed walls and still doesn't cover. I also purchased a gallon for trim. Bad decision. Same result 4 coats on doors still looked like garbage. Went and purchased a gallon of Benjamin Moore aura to cover and finish trim and doors extra $80 to do in one coat what 4 couldn't. Never purchase valspar again after seeing the poor result.

Great paint great colour selection
I have used this paint last year and liked it so I bought more of the same colour and it matches perfectly. I wish they had samples in eggshell for touch-ups, but only available in satin finish. Very good quality paint with very low odour and quick drying.
Coverage could be a little better, but acceptable. If you get this paint on sale, its well worth the price.

Tacky
I used Valspar semi gloss on the wood trim in our family room with a good coat of primer underneath and after 9 months the paint still feels not fully dry with a tacky feel to it.
I have used Valspar “eggshell” for almost every room in our house and was happy with the results but would not use their semi gloss again

Maybe the best paint ever
Went on thick, very little splatter on a spackled ceiling, awesome color hiding, no bleedthrough even with 30 years of tobacco smoke staining. did require 2 coats for evenness but the finished product is very scratch and scuff resistant. best bang for the buck

Amazing!
With over 50 years on this planet, I have painted many rooms and used many different brands. From now on I will only use Valspar! Viscosity is as smooth as silk and coverage was by far the best I have ever seen.
