Description
Ultracolor Plus with DropEffect technology is an ultra premium, fast-setting, polymer-modified, color consistent, nonshrinking, efflorescence-free grout for joint widths from 1/8 in. to 1 in. (3 mm to 2.5 cm). DropEffect technology reduces surface absorption to help repel water, dirt and grime from penetrating grout joints. Ultracolor Plus is specially formulated with Mapei's high-hydrated cement technology (HCT) to eliminate the common problems related to Portland cement grout, such as color consistency and efflorescence.

Excellent for pebble mosaic
After reading all of the negative reviews, I was petrified to use this product but the spacing of my glass pebble mosaid left me no choice. This is where the Internet is frustrating, this product is excellent! The key is to be exact when measuring the mix and mix it in smaller batchea, which go a long way. I mad four batches out of a 25lb bag but there is plety if time to do a 10lb bag without problem. I used a scale and a measuring cup to divide the mix after dry mixing for color consistency. Thus was my first frout job and it went perfect, no haze, no hard grout before I was ready, and looked great. PERFECT FOR PEBBLE MOSAIC OR GLASS MOSAIC.

Great Grout
My second time tiling a floor. Used the "Rain" color on my shower floor with stone mosaic tiles, the product went on smoothly and hard as a rock the next day. I do not know why so many people had a hard time with it setting up. I did a 3ft x 5ft shower in two batches. I had everything prepped and ready before mixing. I used refrigerated garden hose water and had zero issues. I used garden hose water due to salt water system in house and filled up an empty distilled water jug the night before and placed in frig. I read the cold water allows for extra time due to the chemical heating of the product when mixing. Hope this helps :)

Sets up WAY too fast
I have always been a fan of Mapei's products, but I'm not sure what they were thinking with Ultracolor. I'm a tile contractor, and as others have noted, this stuff gets rock hard in the blink of an eye--we're talking about 30-45 mins of working time. Going as fast as possible, with an assistant, I managed to get about 100 sq ft of 1' sq tile done per mix. Most grouts I would get 5 times this much done. One big plus of ultracolor though is that it really does maintain its color (no efflorescence at all) much better than any other grout I've used. So maybe if you have a team of 4 guys, or only doing a small area, it may be worth it, but I would love to see a rep from Mapei follow the directions on the bag (which are for mixing a full 25lb bag) and show me how on earth you could get even half that much grout down before the bucket was a rock.

Avoid this new nightmare product
This grout sets up very fast and very hard. I wound up chiseling grout for hours to recover from this cursed product. I properly mixed half a bag - and half of that hardened before I could appLy it. What I was able to apply hardened so quickly and completely that wiping off excess was impossible. I hope Lowe's takes this off the shelves before many people have this misery. I have done a number of successful tiling projects with conventional grout.

Try it....use proper procedures....works well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was stressed out by the negative reviews. I called Mapei and they provided additional hints.
1) Do small areas. In my case I have large tiles, thus I did approx. 10 sq feet at at time.
2) Use cold water (I used ice water from a pitcher in the fridge, not the ice though).
3) Follow their guide that indicates using two buckets of cleaning water, one for the initial rinse of the sponge and another for second rinse which means you have a clean sponge to work with.
With these hints, it worked really well. Don't get ahead of yourself because it does act quickly.

Read the instructions on the back!
This stuff worked great and had no problems with it. Why didn’t I have problems like others who say it sets up too fast? That’s because I read the back of the bag and saw that it sets up in about 15 minutes and water cannot be added to bring it back to life. Once it sets, it’s done for. What does that mean? You need to make a little and work in small sections. Even if you think you know what you’re doing, work in small batches until you get a good feel for it. It’s sad people are giving low rating because they didn’t read and plan ahead.

rapid set
Mix in small batches. I had to do 2 pounds at a time for the walls and I could do abou 5 pounds for the floors. sets quick. not bad if you have 2 people one doing floating and one following with the sponge wiping off excess. I used the white for the floor and the shower.
