Ultracolor Plus with DropEffect technology is an ultra premium, fast-setting, polymer-modified, color consistent, nonshrinking, efflorescence-free grout for joint widths from 1/8 in. to 1 in. (3 mm to 2.5 cm). DropEffect technology reduces surface absorption to help repel water, dirt and grime from penetrating grout joints. Ultracolor Plus is specially formulated with Mapei's high-hydrated cement technology (HCT) to eliminate the common problems related to Portland cement grout, such as color consistency and efflorescence.

Great Product
#1 Read the instructions and follow them. This is not like traditional grout.
#2 - This is a great product that hardens well and holds its color
#3 - I am a tile contractor and I do a lot of tile. If you are not a pro, then mix up a small amount and work a small area. It may take a little longer to complete the job, but the results are worth it.

High Quality product, but read the instructions!!!
I bought this to grout a cement/fibre table that I covered in tile. I read the bag thoroughly, and then did it again, so that I was clear. Make sure that your ratios are correct (i.e. 10 lbs. to 1 US quart of water), and that you only do a small batch that you can use fully in about 30 minutes. This stuff sets really fast, which is why it is a great product, but you have to be patient enough to read the instructions and follow them. If multiple bags of the same product, dry mix them all together first, and then mix a small batch. I ended up with a fantastic grout that will stand up to a lot of use.

Vague instructions
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Package instructions were a bit vague for this first timer attempting a re-grout job. 15 minutes was a little too soon to wipe with a sponge. Would have had a a better finish if I had waited 30 minutes but did not want to go over it again and get everything overly wet. Product does set up fast. The area I was working was a small shower floor so timewise it worked out OK. At the 4 hour mark the grout seems to be drying just fine. As long as the Mapei grout holds up better than the crappy professional job I had done I will be happy.
3 stars because of the package instructions and never got an email reply to my questions from customer service.

Great grout for outdoor mosaic projects
I use this grout a lot for outdoor stone and glass mosaic sculptures. It’s easy to work with and super durable. Love not having to seal it. The color is not quite true black. One thing instructions are missing (or I missed) is to allow grout to set for 10-15 minutes before wiping off so as not to wipe too much out of grout lines. I thought FA set more quickly but once I adjusted my resting time it was perfect.

Fast drying
This seems to work, black is very hard to clean up. Don't get to far ahead with this grout, it dries quick and hard. Looks good when done.

Bleeds so badly.
So disappointed I installed this grout, mixed properly, and now it bleeds black down all my white tile. Just touching a grout line leaves your figer black. Miserable!!

color is not consistent
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was grouting a 580 sq. ft basement. I had to mix several different batches because of how big the room is. I mixed them with the same ratio of grout to water. The color was so blatantly different. I don't know what to do. Pretty unhappy.

Its not that scary I promise.
After i purchased this I was a bit worried after reading the reviews about how fast it sets and not being a product for beginners but my father in law and I did enough research to go for it and Im glad we did. My backsplash came out beautiful! Important things we learned: 1. Follow the directions exactly. Including measurements, we used a small kitchen scale for accuracy. We only added small amounts of additional water after beginning the mixing to ensure a peanut butter consistency. 2. Mix in small batches! We started with 1/3 of a bag and the 2nd time we did 1/2 (5lbs) and that was perfect enough to work thoroughly and not have it solidify in the bucket. 3. Keep a small amount of the grout powder for emergency or to fill any bubbles or missed spots that show up. We ended up with some left over mix so i went back and filled bubbles with that but im still glad we had saved some just in case. 4. I recommend 2 people just so one can time out the wiping because it is quick but if thats not possible just plan it out. 5. When wiping with the damp sponge wipe in circular motions then leave it alone for a few minutes and go back in with a damp rag. Let that dry, itll turn like a hazy white over the tile then dry buff with a microfiber towel. If youre a first timer like me do your research and be ready to work fast and have a plan. We did have one small area with discoloration but I'm pretty sure it was my fault as it was an area where we stopped and started with the new mix and I think introduced the damp sponge in that area too soon. Its not very noticeable so I'm not worried about it. Overall I loved how easy it was to work with and how fast it set and the results are gorgeous so I definitely recommend this product and will be using it again for future projects.
