Description
The Sun-Mar® Excel-NE has long been the standard toilet for those living off the grid. The Excel-NE is a high capacity non-electric composting toilet. Like all Sun-Mar® composting toilets the Excel-NE incorporates a patented Bio-drum™ which ensures fast and odourless decomposition. The Excel-NE is the preferred self-contained model for residential or heavy cottage use. Saves thousands of gallons of water, while recycling waste into safe useable soil. The unit is shipped fully assembled. To install, simply connect the supplied 4'' (10.16 cm) vent stack and security drain. Its seasonal capacity is 5 adults or families of 7 while its residential use is 2 adults or families of 3.

Do you also have the 12 volt fans that can be attached to this? We have a very old one and want to get a new one but would like a fan attachment as well.
So glad to see another satisfied SunMar user. Lowe's does sell (online only?) the 12v fans, for grid or solar power. We ran our NE/Non-Electric/NoFan model for about 10 years before retro-fitting a fan into the stack: It Works Great! . . . No more complaints from the kids as a breeze from wrong direction used to make our cabin real stinky...

Is toilet paper allowed
Yes. toilet paper in moderation, composts well. We've had a SunMar Non-Electric for over 10 years at our cabin in the woods. To have TP 'disapear' in the mix you'll need to find a balance between 'amount.use' & 'letting things compost', but, eventually the compost/product looks about the same as what the garden centre sells.

Advertized for cottage/off grid - how does the unit work in freezing conditions...?
we have had ours installed in a plastic shed as our out house in algonquin park now for over 6 years . works great every time !! perfect for our off grid system of living and easy t wo use and operate .the plastic is holding up very well and is not brittle yet

The plan is to use the unit in an unheated outbuilding. Will occasional use in the winter months pose any problems?

What is the “sit down” height? i.e. where the toilet seat is, not the total height.

Great unit for no water, off grid, cabin in the woods. We've had ours for over 10 years and it's met our needs, a few weeks a year, up to 8 people per visit. Definitely do recommend the 12v fan, available online from Lowe's. It can be run solar or AC/DC adapter... Without it we had occasional smelly 'back drafts'.

Love it!
Bought the toilet about a month ago from Lowes online. From dealing with order person to receiving the toilet was trouble free and we received it on time. We have no water into our cabin so thought we would try this toilet out. All I can say is we should have bought one sooner! So easy to use. No odors. Love it..

So far so good
I bought this a month ago to go in my cabin. Have not set it up as of yet. But will be this week. It is a lot bigger then I thought will need a step ladder to get one it. Lol. But everyone I know recommended this one for me. So we will see how I like it

Great toilet for odor poorly made though!
Materials are ultra thin for the price!!! Not worth what they're charging! I've had more downtime with this toilet than sit on time :(
