Rated 5 out of 5 by Backyard Enthusiast from Does what it promises I was skeptical and am pleased with initial performance after going through some large brush piles. You do have to feed fairly straight branches with little or no smaller branches coming off the side (clip them off first, close to the larger branch.) It easily ate through piles and chewed up branches up to about an inch or a bit more. I didn't try to overfeed it and had no trouble. For the price, it's a good little machine. I like the size and convenience, no gas or oil, and safe to use as directed. The blades seemed to have dulled faster than I might have liked. This probably goes with the territory. I feel like my free mulch will pay for the machine. It's for light brush, not heavy work.

I bought this shredder because I am tried of stuffing the branches into the trash and hope they get picked up. So, I trimmed my peach tree, let the branches lay in the sun until the leaves dried, about a week, then ran them through it. WOW, no problems what so ever, crunch it nice and small. NOTE: As you feed branches in, the second they hit the blade the branch will spin, move, jump and do all kinds of weird things as it'\s been pulled in.WEAR EYE PROTECTION ALL THE TIME. Here are my observations: 1. setup, throw the wrench they give you away, it's junk. Use 13mm socket and wrench to bolt on the wheels. That was about all the issues with the setup. Manual is awesome with GOOD English and pictures. 2. When shredding, I ran about 1.5" branches through and no problems. It's say its up to 2" give or take. I had no problems. 3. When putting the branches in, remember the intake is on the right side of the opening and also that's where the blade below, feeding in any other part will not engage the blade. 4. Awkward shaped branches can get stuck, So I suggest to break them into as straight as possible and avoid a Y or W or V shaped branches, split them for easy feed. 5. It will process dry leaves, sort of. 6. Small thin branches will NOT process unless they are with larger, thicker, branches.So try combining the thin ones together, make a bunch of small branches and feed them. Other than that it is awesome, Now I need to buy a pole saw to cut more branches LOL

Rated 2 out of 5 by JohnG668 from Dissappinting I had a Powersmart chipper shredder and it worked great. Lasted 5 years and I got my monies worth. My biggest issue with the SunJoe is it clogs up both above and below the blades. I am constantly have to shut it off and dig out the discharge side. The leafier the branches, the more apt it is to clog up on the intake side. I foolishly went with a well known brand when I replaced my PowerSmart, thinking I could find something a little better. The SunJoe works, it is just more time consuming and frustrating.

I took a chance and bought one since it costs less than renting a chipper for 1 day. I have multiple piles of branches around our property and hoped to be able to tackle them slowly. It took me 5 minutes to assemble and I spent the whole afternoon making mulch out of pile #1. I was impressed with how well it worked and how well it handled branches up to the recommended size.

Rated 4 out of 5 by rrohr from Good for yard waste Assembly is pretty simple and all tools are provided. The chipper works as advertised and will easily chip wood up to 1.5 inches in diameter. Feeding is easy, but you may need to push a branch along several times before it chips fully. Do wear gloves, because the branch will be pulled into the machine fairly fast. The main shortcoming is finding a suitable receptacle to catch the chips coming out of the bottom. The stand makes it difficult to place a bucket there. Don't try to chip a tree with this, but for small branches, it does fine.

Bought my own this year to chip as I went without having a pile in my way. Chipping mostly annual growth out to ~3/4 inch. It liked the long (6'-8'), soft aspens but handles the apple well too. Spits short (12") fine trimmings straight through. Easy to bring out for short trimming sessions or to take elsewhere. Makes a nice base mulch reducing the amount or ornamental stuff we will need to buy for cover.
