How do you flip the cover on this?

Asked by: Bella58
It’s really wedged in, isn’t it! I used a flat head screw driver to lever up the sides.

What size patio umbrella will this stand hold safely? I am looking for base for 10ft round (3.05m) umbrella. Will this work?

Asked by: Deanna135
I wondered this too. My umbrellas are 9ft and super sturdy once I filled the stands/side tables/planters with bricks and sand. I'm on a windy second and third floors so I wanted to make mine as heavy as possible. I can't say for certain if it will work for your umbrella but if you are thinking of making it heavy like I did and aren't in a windy location, then I can see it working out.

How to you open the top?

Asked by: Sue McKinney
There is a tool inside it but for the first time, I used a flat head screwdriver to pry the corner open. I've also used a dinner knife when in a pinch! Hope this helps!

If you use this as a planter are there drainage holes?

Asked by: Kelly456
There weren't any drainage holes in mine however it is big enough that with some stones at the bottom you could provide drainage that way. Or you could consider puncturing some holes in the bottom with big nails, a drill or something like that.

Will this work with a cantilever umbrella?

Asked by: ChuckE
I wondered this too and tried it with a small cantilever umbrella (7.5ft). It worked but I wasn't confident that it would hold up in strong storms so I switched to a non-cantilever 9ft umbrella instead.

I'm guessing I would fill this with water or sand. Is that correct?

Asked by: Shopping Daughter
I filled mine with bricks and sand. I considered using bricks and then soils to turn it into a planter but since I don't have a green thumb, I decided against it.

I can't get the lid off of this umbrella stand, to be able to fill it with sand. Any ideas?

Asked by: CHP1
I had the same problem and used a flat head screwdriver (or dinner knife) to pry the edge of the lid off. Once off, I found a tool included to pry it off for future needs. Hope this helps!

Can this stand be filled with sand to hold a off set umbrella

Asked by: TLMacK
Yes I fill it with sand, the metal clamp inside I keep the sand below so it will not rust if it gets wet

Sofun Umbrella Stand - Multifunction - Black is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from They sent me a dented one This item arrived dented. I know it was dented when it was packed because the box it came in was undamaged. A box definitely wouldn't bounce back from corner damage. No directions or any indicator of how to take the lid off. I found a hex bolt in the bottom and tried that. Nothing. Had to do an internet search and it "opens like a paint can", you just pry it up with something flat- but it's soft plastic so be careful. I did that. Inside I found the directions and the L key for the hex bolt and the two tightening bolt things. You use the umbrella tightener once the umbrella is in place... but the adjustment area is *inside* the box and the umbrella can only go through the table top if you're using it, the top cannot be placed after the umbrella. You will need 2 people, 1 to hold the umbrella and the top up, and then you can tighten it. So far it seems fine. I'm going to fill it with bags of gravel and get some weatherproofing or something to wrap around the umbrella so that rain can't get in the top hole. If you want to use it as a planter, you will have to drill holes in the bottom, as there are none.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great as long as it doesn’t rain! We have had this umbrella stand for 2 years. It works great as an umbrella stand. The main drawback is that if it is left out in the elements it fills up with rain water. If it is a rainy summer you may need to empty part way through the season. The water also rusts the umbrella base and leaves trail of rusty sediment when you remove the umbrella pole.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love them! We bought 6 or these 4 used with the flower option and 2 used as the table option the hole for the umbrella pole to go into is a little on the large side so we filled it with hot glue to keep it in place and worked like a charm. Best bases we have ever bought.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best patio side table/umbrella stand! I bought one late spring after searching everywhere for a side table that could also effectively hold a patio umbrella because I have limited patio space and needed shade for my conversation areas without the need for a dining table. I was so happy with it this stand/side table/planter that I bought a second one a month later! It is heavy-duty double-walled plastic container that has an umbrella stand built in and a metal frame to secure the umbrella post and then a lid that can be placed on top to hid the insides or can be left off. If you want to fill it with soil, you can turn it into a garden planter. I chose to use the top on it's flat side as a smooth side table top however if you flip the lid, it is shaped to hold a drink and other items! I filled mine with bricks and sand to provide very strong (and heavy!) stands because mine on my second and third floor decks which get a lot of wind. Not once did the 9ft umbrellas budge in high winds. They can be moved around your deck with no leaks or toppling umbrellas to make it easy to rearrange your patio without any issues. I took out the umbrellas for the winter but these stands/side tables/planters have been outside all winter and spring and look as good as new! If you have limited space or want a side table and shade for your conversation area without the need for a large dining table, this is absolutely perfect!
