Yes if you pull the pin out the base will stay on the wall.

Excellent reel - review 2 years in
I bought this reel on sale, as comparable ones were more expensive with mixed reviews. We have a 1-acre property, and this hose was installed on one corner to cover our front lawn. This hose has been great - it does take some effort to pull it, and you should never release it and let it fly back into the reel; always gently walk it back in so you don't damage it.
This will be our 3rd summer with it - we drain it fully in the fall, and keep it stored outside in our shed, and have never had any leaks in it. We do blow compressed air through the hose in the fall though, as with another other hose leaving water in it to freeze will cause it to expand.

RETRACTOR NEEDS HELP
I give it 1⭐ for well packaged and easy to install.
However, it was difficult to pull out. Retracting was slow and weird and would stop for no reason. I tried several times to pull it out then retract. Each time with same results. And each time I could not get the hose to 100% retract. I had to get my hands into the unit to assist the process.
Also the unit makes sounds of very cheap plastic. Even if it did work, it wouldn't last long.
Sorry SCOTT'S but you made a dud.

Works as advertised!!! Review after 1 year.
Purchased this @ Lowes in Markham, Ontario over 1 year ago. Use it every day or every other day during nonwinter months. Disconnected unit and stored in the garage over winter. Absolutely NO issues and works as advertised. Retracts today just like it did on day one.

While using it, I noticed a leak. On opening the side I saw something broken. Who to contact for parts or warranty? Tried Scott’s, they gave another company, orbit and they don’t answers or call you back.
