Can we use these doors for sunroom windows and leave off the handles and closer?

Asked by: Ed O

When I was leaving my house my son flipped the switch on the lock so when I got home I was locked out just wondering why it stays locked when somebody accidentally flipped the switch should there not be some kind of safety mechanism to prevent that

Asked by: Kriopel

Can you install the safety chain on the top to help prevent being caught in the wind

Asked by: Pockets98

Does the Larson Quick fit handle work on this door? Really want to change the default one so that my child doesn't lock me out without having a key option to get back in...

Savannah 32-in x 81-in Storm Door - White is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 138.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Leaks like my old Storm Door... Purchased this in 2015; by 2017 noticed water on threshold sill after heavy rains and come to find out two things: - the Drip cap is too narrow, it doesn't fully cover both latch/hinge rails at the top, so i had to caulk in two more pieces of alumium. Otherwise, rain gets driven behind the cap and ends up in that channel below the brickmolding. - The front panel where it meets the Storm door window sill ends up leaking. Larson doors said i should simply caulk at the corners, but no pictures or diagrams. The caulking doesn't look like a simple task; finding it is a whole other story. I'm sure there are better doors in the market. Keep looking....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lasted less than 3 months! My old aluminum store was here when I bought the house over 20 years ago and lasted that long. I bought this door in December and one wind storm in February blew it off its hinges. The aluminum at the bottom of the door came apart revealing that the inner part of the door ("wood") is more like corkboard. The metal piece to restrain the door bent, rendering the door useless. This door was somehow no longer under warranty, and the manufacturer wouldn't even send repair parts out of good will. I think to call this a storm door is totally wrong, as we've had much stronger storms than this, which the old door managed perfectly well. This door seems defective.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great door for the money. Very user-friendly instructions very detailed so it's hard to make a mistake. Once you hang the door with the hinge hardest part is making sure it is level/plum. Overall a very easy install hardest part was finding my drillbits. A 9/16 spade bit a 3/8 and an 1/8 Will be needed to complete this project just grab them while you're at Lowe's so you don't have to stop mid project. Also grab some free paint sticks from paint departmentin case you need some shims, luckily I had a bunch in the garage but if you're opening is 36 inches you will need to shim alittle bit on the jamb side.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Larson 37082031 32" storm door This storm door is heavy and sturdy. The installation went well, although it took several hours due to the shims I had to measure and cut from a 1x6. The closer is not strong enough to latch the door when the inside house door is closed, but works great when the inside door is open. A big reason for the 3 star rating is when the top glass is pulled down to allow the screen to let in fresh air, the screen is not attached to anything on either side of the door. It just rests against the felt strips that the window seals against when the window is up. This allows the wind to push the screen open and bugs can enter the house. It's a nice door except for this feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, well designed, storm door I was impressed with every aspect of this storm door. it is well designed for ease of installation, and the instructions are quite clear. The latch mechanism is pre-mortised in the door and the frame is also relieved where it latches, so no chiseling is necessary. After previously having an economy storm door (aluminum skin over the outside of an aluminum frame), this one sounds like a solid wood entry door (which it really is) when it closes. The retractable screen (ScreenAway) is a great feature - just raise or lower the ventilating window and the screen follows it from or to a cassette roll hidden above the window. I didn't have it completely installed before I recommended it to a friend who happened to stop by. Maybe best of all, it's made in the USA!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good door for the value. We have had our door for about 3 months now and have nothing bad to say at all. It took two of us about 2 hours to get it up. We had to adjust our current frame but that was due to the age of the house. Other than that we had no problems getting the frame and the door hung. The sliding screen feature is very easy to use and have not had any problems. It is very air tight when the glass is up. This is the door we go in and out of everyday and so far so good. We are glad we took a step up from what we originally wanted to to buy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not My 1st Choice! As the title indicates, this was not my first choice in storm doors. However, when George (Lowes' Installer), came by to measure the opening, he suggested this particular door for its features. I am so glad that I listened. I also wanted to extend kudos to George for taking the time to fix some minor issues with the front door that I had installed several years ago, free of charge! Thanks again. Very happy with the door! My wife says I am like a kid with a new toy (I like sliding the roll up screen up and down, no more exchanging windows and screens each season) !!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Engineering DO NOT buy this door if you need to get in your house. The lock is designed so that the knob unlock position is up and the position for locking is down. So when the door shuts gravity can cause the lock knob to fall into the lock position. This is a no key lock so subsequently you better have another way to get into your house. We were locked out five times in the first three days after installing. In addition the window handle for the retractable screen could not be any cheaper in material or design. This lasted one week before breaking off altogether. It's too bad because the door seems to be otherwise good quality. But when the fail points either lock you out or keep the retractable screen from ever working again this design is a failure.
