Description
Put in this ROCKWOOL Safe'n'Sound insulation for quieter and safer areas. This is an interior insulator made of high-density stone wool. It works well for ceilings, floors and walls between rooms. The 3-in thick, pre-cut batts measure 24 in x 48 in to fit steel studs. To adjust sizing or cut irregular notches, use a serrated knife. Position the insulation, then press it into place. This is sound-absorbing and fire-resistant insulation, so a snug fit ensures peak performance. You can put Safe'n'Sound insulation up quickly and reap the sound-dampening and fire-protection benefits immediately. In the event of a fire, this stone wool insulation won't smoulder or ignite. It's also inorganic and non-reactive. The insulation doesn't take on water or moisture, which prevents decay and discourages mould and mildew.

Very difficult to find.
I have used this product in the past and was impressed by its ability to reduce sound transmission. I had a problem, my house has I-beam joists on 12 inch centres, the space between the middle of the joists is 11 7/16". Rockwool does not make any to fit. I planned to use the insulation made to fit between steel studs on 24" centers, it is 24 1/4" wide, and will split down the middle to 12 1/8", perfect for a press fit. But try to find it. Most everyone is out of stock. I found 2 RONA's with inventory, one way on the west side of Toronto and one in the east side. It was a 40 minute drive to the eastern one, and I managed to get what I wanted before they ran out. Haven't used it yet but previous experience has shown it is worth the trouble to locate and pick up.
